Since merging with Endeavor this past Tuesday (9/12), everyone’s expecting a wave of layoffs and releases from the WWE starting on September 15.
The main focus of this has been reported to be office personnel to avoid duplicate positions and wasting money. It’s bad for the employees, but good for the company and hopefully they’ll get a good severance package.
But there’s the possibility that more than corporate office people could be released as well, and the top name on that list could be Matt Riddle.
Following his latest intoxicated antics where he ended up accusing a New York City Police officer of sexually assaulting him.
Even eventually took down the Instagram post, but not before a lot of people noticed.
The claim and fallout
Last Sunday, Riddle accused a New York police officer of sexually assaulting him at JFK airport and afterwards he missed Raw.
After his altercation, he deleted the post and said: “Finally leaving JFK and I never wanna come back here again.”
TMZ reported that the Port Authority received a call about someone acting disorderly and that turned out to be Matt Riddle.
Witnesses said Riddle seemed apologetic when talking with the police and no report was filed.
After Riddle posted his status, it was reported that the Port Authority were shocked about his claim as they didn’t view anything they did that warranted the accusation, but they’re taking it seriously and launching an internal probe.
The altercation may be why he was pulled from Raw and other live events, but he’s expected back at next week’s Raw.
Given his issues with substance there is the chance he’s viewed as more of a liability than not at the moment, and Endeavor may not be willing to deal with the bad press he could generate.
He has loads of talent and can do so much in the business, but there have been times where he looked like he reached his plateau with his character.
While Vince McMahon remains in control of the WWE as a whole, he now answers to superiors for his actions, and if the powers that be view Riddle as a problem that could mean his time with the WWE is at an end.
This is nothing but speculation, and we’d like to see Riddle get whatever help he needs instead of being cast aside, so this will be an interesting time and we’ll have to wait and see what’s going to happen.
