Cody Rhodes made a major life choice when he would leave All Elite Wrestling to return to WWE. This would prove to be an immediate success – as he defeated Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38.
WrestleMania 39, Rhodes was in the main event – challenging Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. He was unsuccessful, but intends on finishing the story – and WWE history could play in his favour of being triumphant at WrestleMania 40.
WrestleMania 10, 20 & 30 Were Capped Off By Huge Babyface Victories
When it comes to the history of WrestleMania – there are trends that fans are able to follow. It’s an event with some of the greatest moments in professional wrestling history, and some of the best matches. However – one thing that fans have noticed over the years is how big things tend to happen every 10 years.
At WrestleMania X – “Ten Years In The Making” , we would see Bret Hart defeat Yokozuna to start his second reign as the WWF Champion – a victory a year in the making for one of the most popular names in the company.
This would set the standard for the future – and while it’s not the biggest moment, it did see a babyface fan favourite get his moment.
Ten years later at WrestleMania XX – “Where It All Begins Again” we would see Chris Benoit triumph over Triple H 7 Shawn Michaels to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
His celebration with Eddie Guerrero, who had defeated Kurt Angle to retain the WWE Championship remains one of the most touching moments in the history of the company, despite what would come from Benoit down the line.
Come WrestleMania XXX – “Let The Good Times Roll” it would be Daniel Bryan in the spotlight. The Yes Movement had put him in a match with Triple H earlier in the show, and he’d close out the night defeating Batista & Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, a true feel good moment for fans after months of struggle for Bryan.
Cody Rhodes Can Finish The Story At WrestleMania 40
After three times, a clear trend can be traced – and the stage is set perfectly for Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XL. Roman Reigns has been near untouchable since becoming WWE Universal Champion, with Rhodes coming as close as anyone earlier this year.
With Reigns set to surpass one of the legendary reigns of Bruno Sammartino in early 2024 – and The Bloodline storyline winding down, the timing will be perfect.
WWE might shy away from their past at times, choosing to focus on the present and the future – this is one tradition that makes sense to upkeep. Rhodes remains one of the most popular names in WWE even after two years.
He’s ready to take that top spot in the company, and has shown the work ethic of a champion even without the belt around his waist. Rhodes needs to finish the story, and we could know the date of the final chapter.
