Again, CM Punk and AEW—done. The chances of him going to other companies are slim but interesting. New Japan is occasionally mentioned in the likely places but who really knows there, He never really expressed if he would like to wrestle for the company, but it leaves an interesting question of how he would be booked and how the New Japan fan would receive him.
Of course, there is other messy business such as The Elite’s ties to New Japan as well as AEW’s. Having CM Punk on their roster would be dicey business as they would’ve signed him to a juicy contract and would have to use him.
The pick that can afford him, will negotiate, and has no potentially messy ties is WWE. While it’s old stomping grounds, Punk has a history with WWE and would a new roster of talent for storylines.
There Are Grumblings Within WWE Over CM Punk Potentially Returning
Not only that, but the addition of CM Punk would also allow for some talents to get over quickly. Again, the tried-and-true McMahon Family storyline needs an anti-authority babyface.
Very few wrestlers on the present roster would fit the role to warrant bringing out the McMahons to back their young heel Champion—their Chosen One.
Punk is an easy pick for that role and would just need the heel to clash against. Plus, the McMahons would definitely come out to deal with Punk.
Of course, Vince McMahon—who wanted Punk removed during his last WWE visit—might not come out to deal with the Real World Champion but Triple H and possibly Stephanie—as a free agent—would show up with their young charge and some goons.
According to PWInsider, some superstars saw this as a good “chance to make big money” by having CM Punk as a major draw. However, you had other talent who either didn’t see it happening or really didn’t want Punk in the WWE. Their report didn’t mention who was on board and who wasn’t.
This isn’t surprising as Punk is someone who stirs up a lot of mixed—often conflicting—feelings. Often, it depends on if the wrestler ever worked with him and when they worked with him. Then again, it also depends on how a wrestler interacts with him.
Again—mixed, often conflicting feelings towards this former World Champion. Who do you believe was against CM Punk returning to WWE? Let us know in the comments!
