WWE superstar R-Truth has been out of the ring since November 2022 after tearing his quad during an NXT bout against Grayson Waller.
Fortunately for R-Truth, a torn quad is one of those wrestling injuries that talent tend to bounce back from—it just takes more time than they would want.
WWE Superstar R-Truth Close to Returning to In-Ring Action
In recent weeks, R-Truth has been hitting up the Performance Center and getting the ring rust off. On his TikTok the 51-year-old confirmed he would be returning from injury “very soon”.
Waller responded that the two had unfinished business to handle. It’s a nice little setup for a return match although it’ll need a little more to really get interest percolating.
After all, R-Truth hasn’t been taken or presented as a serious competitor for most of his WWE career. He’s mainly been used in comedic roles and as a personality on broadcasts. However, his time on NXT did something to refresh him and show that he could still get it done in the ring.
On that note, there’s always concern about a superstar’s form when they return. Will they be the same? Even better? Or worse than when they left? That’s mainly why wrestlers go through the WWE Performance Center when coming off an injury.
Rarely does anyone get cleared and return right to the roster. We wants to know that a superstar is sturdy enough for in-ring action regardless of if they’re a major competitor, comedy relief, or eye candy. Every promotion has a certain in-ring standard and you can’t have wrestlers coming off injury with ring rust on television—it could result in them or another star getting injured again.
Finally, there’s the question of how would he return. R-Truth has settled into the role of a comedic talent but NXT showed he could still do what he needs to do in-ring and be entertaining.
His days of high-risk offense are behind him but he wasn’t a slouch and he works a style that makes him a particularly safe superstar to put someone against.
How do you see R-Truth returning and do you see him back on NXT? When do you see him returning? Let us know in the comments!
