According to Cole Sprouse, the film industry is guilty of promoting the negative traits among actors.
Actor Cole Sprouse Slams Hollywood For Promoting ‘Narcissism, Selfishness, Greed’
Sprouse shared details about his childhood experiences as a child actor and mentioned that a lot of young performers entered the entertainment industry with the intention of earning a living.
The star started appearing in commercials before acting in the sitcom Grace Under Fire with his twin brother Dylan when they were small toddlers.
And that clearly had an impact on him, as he was thrust into the entertainment industry from a young age, without having the chance to experience a normal childhood.
In his comments, he said: “I think the pressure of my upbringing really compelled me to keep doing what I am today.
“I cannot live without the arts… without performance or expression of some kind, because truly it’s all I know and have known since I was eight months old.”
Sprouse’s parents separated when he was a toddler, leaving him with only one recollection of them being together. Following their divorce, the court granted his mother the primary custody of Sprouse and his sibling.
And as his mother was a single mother, she had to do something, which is why he ended up in acting. Nevertheless, this did not turn out well. Sprouse admitted that his brother, Dylan, ended up being a bully at school.
This may have been due to the fact that Sprouse had achieved so much success, which then brought about an element of arrogance.
After all, their school time coincided with their acting success on ‘The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.’ Not only that, but the fact that they had a disruptive childhood due to the divorce, this may have compounded matters.
Sprouse added: “Dylan specifically was a huge bully. He would beat them up! And then I became known as the twin that would come up and be like, ‘I’m so sorry for my brother. Oh no, everyone knows that he was a bully.”
That would explain why Sprouse views fame in a negative way, as he admitted that it had the impact of changing a person completely. And in fact, it was so much to the point where he did not see any positive elements to it.
His following comments confirmed as much: “This industry, in very many ways, it encourages the worst qualities of you as a person. Narcissism, selfishness, greed.”
