I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and I thought we were already at the main event of WWE SmackDown here tonight. Granted, it did begin noticeably early, about ten minutes earlier than expected. So perhaps it shouldn’t have been too much of a shock that things weren’t quite what they seemed.
The match in question pit King Corbin against Kofi Kingston in a one-on-one bout. This came about after the New Day interrupted Corbin’s gloating over the vicious dog food based assault on Roman Reigns last week.
You can see an excerpt of my recap of the match below:
Corbin bickers with E at ringside, drops Kofi with a right hand. Kofi fights back with shots, hits the ropes, Corbin with a running back elbow for 2. “Burger King” chants. Kofi with the boots up on charges, Baron tries his ring-around-the-ring-post, dashes in right into an SOS from Kofi! Nearfall. Corbin hoists him up for a powerbomb, but a rana counters it. Kofi with a kick to the face! Hits the ropes, Boom Drop! Kofi gets the crowd clapping along when Ziggler grabs his ankle to prevent the Trouble In Paradise! Referee ejects Ziggler to a pop! The match seems to start refocusing, but Ziggler charges right back in to attack Big E! Kofi and Baron go out as well and get involved in the fight and the match is thrown out!
Winner: No Contest
Afterwards, the brawl continued, and Big E got the advantage before going into the ring and demanding a microphone. He then made a challenge to Corbin and Ziggler – if they want a fight, they’ve got a match! And thus, during the break it was made official. The new main event of WWE SmackDown is in fact Dolph Ziggler & King Corbin vs. Kofi Kingston & Big E of the New Day. That match is in progress as I type!
