In 2021, Mickie James made the news when, after she was released by the WWE for budget cuts, she was sent her belongings in a garbage bag.
Mickie shared a picture of the bag and tagged the WWE and others in thanking them for sending her belongings in such a way.
The WWE’s response was immediate as Stephanie McMahon Tweeted back to her.
.@MickieJames I am embarrassed you or anyone else would be treated this way. I apologize personally and on behalf of @WWE. The person responsible is no longer with our company. https://t.co/nvN4WsKC0I

Since then, Mickie has gone to work for NWA and became Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion after she defeated Deonna Purrazzo.
While she thrived with other companies, the WWE opened their own Forbidden Door and invited to take part in this year’s Royal Rumble nine months after the garbage bag incident, and she agreed to attend.
Apologies given
Mickie spoke with Sportskeeda’s Riju Dasgupta in an interview and she talked about how Vince McMahon and Nick Kahn apologized to her for the problem with her leaving the company.
Nick apologized to her at the Royal Rumble. Special thanks to Sportskeeda.com for the following transcripts.
“Even Nick Khan came up to me at the show and apologized. I think he was a part of the company but I hadn’t met him or knew who he was at that time, because it was an early transitional phase. But even he apologized to me and (said) this should have never happened, and I agree. It should have never happened, it shouldn’t have happened ten years ago, and now it will never happen again.”
Moving on
Mickie’s in a good place now, and she made sure to point out that she’s not bitter or hold any negativity toward the WWE for what happened.
“I don’t feel like I was ever vindictive or (negative), because I spoke to Vince on the phone personally the day that it happened. He called me and we had a conversation. I go back and replay that day in my head so many times. I had missed calls from Johnny Ace, from (Triple H), from Stephanie. they had all sent me text messages and I was also in the middle of a photoshoot when the thing went viral.”
We’re glad that she’s not harboring any ill feelings as it’s totally understandable is she was. In the end, we can’t control the past and can only move forward.
She’s had an awesome career and is adding to it every day, and this moment made her appearance at the Royal Rumble all the more special and historic.
