Many fans did not expect to see a full in-ring return of Lita in 2022. Having made her debut during the Attitude Era back when the company was still known as the WWF, Lita is a legend of professional wrestling. Her punk rock style has made her a fan favourite, and whenever she returns it always brings a lot of excitement for fans. However, fans almost saw her make her way to AEW programming instead of WWE.
Sticking With WWE Because It Feels Like Home
While speaking with Esquire Middle East ahead of her upcoming chance to become the RAW Women’s Champion, Lita would reveal that she had the chance to join the AEW roster. She would turn down this offer however, choosing to stay with WWE. The full quote is as follows.
“AEW is doing exciting stuff. It’s brought new life in the industry. Any time there’s competition, it’s good. It revives the industry. When they reached out to me, I did consider it. I said, we can talk, I’m interested, you guys are doing some interesting stuff. But ultimately, upon talking to them, it just made me say to myself, ‘but I have all of these things already!’ I have those things with my home that I’ve known for 20 years, with the people that I’ve worked with for 20 years. Basically, I gave them my blessing. I said, I will watch you and I support you. And I want you guys to do great, but this just doesn’t feel like the right fit for me right now.”
Lita Will Face Becky Lynch On Saturday At Elimination Chamber
Following this, WWE would bring her in for a full return run – which started just ahead of the 2022 Royal Rumble, and now see’s her challenge Becky Lynch for the RAW Women’s Championship. This comes in Saudi Arabia, marking Lita’s first time wrestling in the country – and her first proper singles match since 2006. She wrestled Heath Slater in 2012, but that was more an angle than a match.
Lita is likely to stick around until atleast Wrestlemania, joining the two night card. There’s not much chance of her defeating Lynch, but anything is possible in 2022 – and Lita winning would be a major shock for fans.
