We love nothing more than a good rivalry whether it’s verbal or in the ring, and Athena recently voiced her desire to face Deonna Purrazzo and take away one of her two championships.
Deonna has made a name for herself in her post-WWE life as one of the best, if not the best, wrestlers in the world. She’s a former 2 time Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion and current ROH Women’s World Championship and AAA Reina de Reinas Champion.
The Virtuosa has built herself up when many didn’t expect much out of her following her release from the WWE in 2020, but she believed in herself and she’s on top of the world.
Athena has followed a similar route as she’s been making a name for herself in the Indie circuit following her WWE release. The former NXT Women’s Champion (known then as Ember Moon) and NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion was one of the best in WWE with her promos, entrances, and in ring ability.
While Athena has returned to her roots, there’s no doubting she’ll rise to the top and she’s eyeing Deonna as a challenge she’d love to face.

Wants a shot
While appearing on Highspots Sign it Live!, Athena talked about wrestling when her attention turned to Deonna.

“So, I’m very happy with Deonna and all the decisions that she’s made because she’s definitely made a name for herself where I think a lot of people thought that she would fail. I’ve always been a big fan of her as a person, well, maybe not so much now because I’ve seen what she’s been saying on IMPACT and she be savage. It’s just one of those things where I’m just really excited to see her journey. I never got to wrestle with her, so that’s something I would absolutely love to do, and I would love to take her title away.”
As a fan of both women, we would so love to see this match. Their styles would make it a great mix and it’ll be fun to see what they can put together.
Even better is this is a definite possibility as Impact is open to working with anyone, so Athena can walk into the Impact Zone at any point to challenge Deonna, or anywhere else for that matter.
It’s one of the cool things about the current world of professional wrestling. With the WWE dropping so many talented people, we now have a chance to see some dream matches we wouldn’t have before and it’s awesome.
