As revealed on the best pro wrestling podcast today, The New Day Feel The Power Podcast, Kofi Kingston revealed he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The former WWE champion and tag team specialist will be with WWE for at least 5 more years.
With how dynamic a performer Kofi is, the possibilities of what he can accomplish in the 2020’s is endless. He could win more world titles, become a 16-timee tag team champion, maybe even pull the greatest Royal Rumble stunt of all, and win the match! It will be an exciting time for sure.
Kofi Kingston in 2019
Kofi Kingston had one of the best years of his career in 2019, where starting at Elimination Chamber he became one of the top guys in the company for Smackdown Live, as he would ride a massive wave of momentum and beat Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania to become WWE Champion. He would defend against the likes of Samoa Joe, Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Owens & Randy Orton before losing the title to Brock Lesnar.
After losing the WWE Championship, he and fellow New Day member Big E would claim another tag team championship, and they most recently defended the titles against The Revival in a ladder match.
Will The New Day Last Another 5 years?
With Kofi being in the company long term, it begs the question; can the New Day last that long as a unit? While all three men are the best of friends, and we have yet to see them support Big E on singles run, I feel like their tag-team antics are beginning to get like the pancakes they throw into the crowd. They’re getting a bit stale. They have already beat every possible team in just about every possible match. I’m sure they will find a way to continue to be fresh, but they really need some new competition.
Maybe taking a trip to NXT to face off with The Undisputed Era would be a way to have a new and interesting feud for The New Day. If they do a 2020 edition of The Dusty Classic, The New Day could be a very exciting edition and it would give them a chance to prove they’re still a top level tag team.
