It has been a very long time since Elias was seen on WWE TV. Following a brief alliance with Jaxson Ryker – which saw Ryker win the feud following the breakup, Elias was written off TV. This was on July 19th, 2021 – and Elias has not been seen on TV since that day.
Elias Is Stuck In Creative Limbo
This means that Elias has been kept on the roster through a storm of ‘budget cut’ related roster cuts, all while WWE have no idea what to do with him. This continues into 2022, where Elias is still stuck in creative limbo. Ringside News would report that the name of Elias is not even currently coming up in meetings related to setting up the shows.
Elias losing the musical drifter gimmick might have killed his WWE career, especially after a return run was shut down simply due to his look being ‘too close to Randy Savage’. He’s a talented performer, but WWE just have no idea what to do with him.
NXT 2.0 Could Very Well Be The Answer
However, the answer could be clear for WWE. Their NXT 2.0 brand is coming along nicely, and main roster talents are becoming more and more common with showing up. AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler, and now Robert Roode have all had quick runs down in the developmental brand.
However, placing Elias down in the character heavy brand for a year or so – having him mindle and challenge the likes of Bron Breakker, Grayson Waller, and Carmello Hayes? That could help Elias reinvent himself, and would allow WWE plenty of time to think of a main roster spot for him, while allowing Elias to do more than sit around and wait for a chance to hit the ring again.
