Back in 2020, former two-division UFC champ and commentator Daniel Cormier put his name in the running to replace Dana White when, eventually, the veteran UFC president retires. Dana told the My Mom’s Basement podcast that there’s one man he can think of who could replace him.
That man is not Daniel Cormier. “There’s a formula to what we do and why we’ve been successful and there is a guy, there’s one guy that [can replace me].
Dana White: “one guy” could replace him as UFC boss, and it isn’t Daniel Cormier
There’s certain things that I do that he wouldn’t be able to do but the important things that get done over there is what really matters and this guy could absolutely, positively, do it. Nobody would even know who the f*** he is. He’s a behind-the-scenes guy. Yeah, Daniel Cormier couldn’t do it. I love Daniel but Daniel couldn’t do it.”
Daniel Cormier knows the organization better than most, however. He’s the workings of the UFC as a top-level fighter and as a commentator, watched the promotion grow exponentially over the years, and is still in love with the sport of MMA. In 2020, he told MMAFighting that he would not turn down the chance to become president of the UFC.
“I think anybody in the world in their right might would [take the job]. To be at the head of an organization that does so many great things in terms of entertainment, and not only that, but community help.
I think what people don’t see is the type of influence that the UFC has in the community. The work that they do with youth programs and programs around the world.
I think if you ever have an opportunity or anyone has an opportunity to do a job like that, they would be insane not to hope to have that opportunity. But Dana’s going to be here for a long time. Dana’s the man.”
Dana White, however, is showing no signs of slowing down. The long-time UFC president remains actively involved in the promotion, appearing at all major events and interacting regularly with the press. At only 52, Dana White is a long way from retirement, and with the UFC only getting bigger year by year, he’s more than likely to lead the organization for years to come.
Who do you think could replace Dana White as head of the UFC? Is Daniel Cormier the logical successor? Let us know in the comments.
