You could be forgiven for assuming that Jorge Masvidal, UFC welterweight, was facing charges following his attack on Colby Covington earlier this week. However, as reported by MixedMartialArts.com, Masvidal has yet to be criminally charged over the incident. He is, however, delaying his application for a license for Gamebred Fighting Championship, Masvidal’s own fighting promotion – without a question Masvidal’s UFC future could be in doubt, especially if he’s fighting criminal charges and faces real jail-time.
Nevada State Athletic Commission chairman Stephen J Cloobeck weighed in on the matter. “If you look at what’s been reported in the news over the last couple of days, I would have assumed that this request would have been requested to be removed from our agenda, but to this point in time, it is not.

I believe that this application is in my opinion, no longer valid because it’s not an accurate application of the promoter’s true and accurate facts of their business and personal life.”
Masvidal himself offered his take on the situation, and how the altercation with Colby could affect his fight promotion. “It would be an honor to get my license in Nevada.
I’ve been fighting in Las Vegas now for over 10 years, and everybody knows it’s the fight capital of the world. It’s the most organized commission in the world. I’ve fought all over the world, literally, numerous times, and there’s nothing better than Las Vegas for fighters and promoters, so it would be a dream come true if I could get my license in Las Vegas.
Since I do have an open case, I’m not supposed to talk about it, but I guess you’re referencing that. Yeah, if we could table it, it’d be better. Right now, I had a mutual combatant with another athlete, and you know, I can’t say too much on this, but if we could table it for later, that would be amazing.”
Cloobeck asked Masvidal if he had been charged following the incident, to which “Gamebred” replied: “To my knowledge, I have not been charged. I do have lawyers on the case, and they’re talking back and forth.”
It’s likely that Colby Covington will press charges following the scuffle. Masvidal allegedly damaged one of Colby’s teeth, and it’s believed that police are still looking into the incident. If Jorge Masvidal is charged following this incident, he could face serious jail time.
