Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here and the show is over but my job isn’t done quite yet! WWE Raw has concluded about twenty minutes ago as of this typing. The main event of course saw Rey Mysterio defend the WWE United States Championship against Seth Rollins, in a match that went to a disqualification after Akam and Rezar of the AOP attacked Rey at the match’s climax.
The action did not stop there however, as the threesome opted to drag Rey up the ramp to the stage where they intended to put him through the broadcast table. But that’s when they drew the ire of one of the commentators, Samoa Joe!
You can see my recap of this segment below:
AOP grabs Rey by the hands, drags him up the ramp to the stage. Strip the broadcast table. Other commentators leave but Joe stands his ground even as Akam and Rezar demand he leave. Joe tells them if he gets up, it’s not to move. If he gets up, it’s both their asses.
Joe rises, to a big pop, gets in their faces! Rollins shoves them away, says that’s not what we’re here for. Chant of “Joe” as he strips off his suit jacket! Rollins apologizes, talks him down. Rollins turns and walks off, whispering, “Finish him.” AOP swarm and assault Joe to a cacophony of boos! Akam and Rezar stomp Joe onto the stage! Seth hits the Stomp on Rey on the stage to ensure he can’t help. AOP double powerbomb Joe through the table and it explodes!
This was the way the show closed out on this night. Samoa Joe, notably, has been out injured for a while but was seemingly cleared a little while ago. He was put on the commentary booth a little while ago, funnily replacing Dio Maddin after he was put through a table by Brock Lesnar.
Goes without saying this sets up Joe’s return feud, and positions him as a babyface for the first time since his call up to the main roster, and the first time in general since turning on Finn Balor four years ago in NXT.
