CM Punk is finally past MJF, and tonight starts his climb to claiming gold in AEW. He made his intentions clear by signalling for gold around his waist after defeating Dax Harwood in singles action. Tonight Punk looks to put down Max Caster as well, who is working solo while Anthony Bowens is out with an injury – but will still support Caster at ringside.
CM Punk Will Be World Champion
Caster would hit the beats expected of him tonight, making reference to Will Smith slapping the taste out of the mouth of Chris Rock at the Oscars. CM Punk isn’t one to let an entrance rap to get in his head, and would kick the match off. He’d trip up Caster and hit an elbow drop, before Caster got to the ropes.
Caster would hit a blow on the back of Punk, before being able to press the advantage into a near fall. Punk would be able to hit a snap suplex, before nearly being set up for the Mic Drop. Caster was caught on the top rope, before being launched with a hurricanrana.
Punk would be taken down for a near fall, before being able to just dodge the Mic Drop. Piledriver & Anaconda Vice would get the victory for Punk, one of his most dominant to date. After the match, Tony Schiavone would ask Punk to confirm his intentions to go for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.
Punk doesn’t care if it’s Adam Cole or Adam Page, because he’ll take the gold. He expects a lot more grey in his hair and a lot more scars, but before his time in AEW is done – he WILL be World Champion.
Jon Moxley Pushes Jay Lethal Into A Tough Fight
Since uniting with Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley has been focusing on tag team action. However, tonight he takes on a legend of Ring of Honor in Jay Lethal as they clash in singles action. Lethal has had hard times finding his footing in AEW since being signed in 2021 – and a win over Jon Moxley will go a long way.
Lethal extended a handshake, before having his hand swatted away. They’d battle for control in the middle of the ring, with Moxley taking Lethal down to the mat. Lethal tried to fight his way free, but was sent tumbling outside of the ring.
Back into the ring, Lethal was suckered into a strike exchange, and Moxley had the edge. Lethal would be set for the superplex, but was able to shove Moxley off and he’d land groin first on the ropes. Moxley would take a suicide dive, before being taken into the ring. Lethal noticed a weakness in the leg, and would start an attack to set up a potential submission.
Dragon Screw would put Moxley down, but not for long enough for the macho man elbow drop. Moxley would pull Lethal back down to the ring, and would nail the King Kong Lariat. Lethal would be able to come back with Lethal Combination for a two count, before avoiding Paradigm Shift thanks to the damage to the knee.
Lethal Injection would be blocked into the rear naked choke, and Lethal nearly got the win. An enziguri would be followed by a brainbuster, before soaring down with the elbow drop for a two count. Figure Four leg lock was blocked, and Moxley nailed the Paradigm Shift, and this one was over. A handshake was given, earned after a hard fight.
