Kanye West has exited Coachella after telling ex-wife Kim Kardashian he would be “going away somewhere” for treatment.
Kanye West Drops Out of Coachella to Focus on Getting Treatment
Coachella is scheduled to take place over two weeks and West was one of the star performers for the festival. Apparently, he was to be joined on stage by another rapper mired in controversy—Travis Scott—but the Houston artist isn’t heading to the festival either. A source told Page Six:
“Kanye has definitely pulled out of Coachella. He hasn’t been rehearsing or putting on a production. Travis Scott was supposed to be joining him onstage.”
Since he’s opted to get help, it would be difficult for him to receive treatment and focus on his performance at the festival. It also puts festival organizers in a tough spot to find another headliner with a little over a week left.
The source said that Ye backed out of the festival as part of him staying out of the public eye. West was announced as a headliner with Harry Styles, Swedish House Mafia, and Billie Ellish. A few months ago, Ye had words for Ellish regarding perceived shade towards Travis Scott following the Astroworld Festival tragedy.
Festival organizers had been under the gun to drop West and it even resulted in a Change.org petition which picked up 50,000 signatures calling for him to be dropped. At the moment, the rumored replacement for Kanye West is expected to be The Weeknd.
Let us know what you think! Do you believe West actually backed out to receive help and to stay out of the public eye or was there some pressure to back out? Do you believe The Weeknd is a good alternate headliner for Ye at Coachella?
