Heya everybody, Jordan Huie of The Overtimer here and I’m bringing you a rather unconventional preview tonight, for a fairly unconventional happening. While there’s not exactly a WWE show on tonight persay, there is in fact going to be a televised WWE match taking place!
Roman Reigns vs. Dolph Ziggler FOX New Year’s Eve Special Preview
It revolves around a New Year’s Eve special that FOX is presenting, leading up to the wee hours in which we make that shift from one decade to the next. The show itself begins at 8 PM ET, and will be hosted by Steve Harvey. Joining him is a celebrity oft-seen on WWE programming, Maria Menounos. Given the obvious affiliation to FOX, WWE will be involved in the proceedings, and they’re advertising that several of their wrestlers will be on hand to help count down to 2020.
As for the match…
Roman Reigns will be going one on one with Dolph Ziggler.
For those who have been keeping up with SmackDown of late, this match is of no surprise. In fact it occurred as the main event of SmackDown a few weeks ago, in which Roman Reigns ended up winning – this was the same night that Roman ended up handcuffed to a post and covered in buckets upon buckets of dog food.
Nonetheless, Dolph Ziggler has continued to be a nuisance to Roman and anyone else who ends up crossing paths with King Corbin. For whatever reason, he’s been a loyal henchman to Corbin ever since he took up the crown. He was primarily a tag partner of Robert Roode until an injury angle – and then a suspension – took Roode off TV, leaving Dolph as Corbin’s main backup. He’s only been marginally more effective since then, however.
After being humiliated a fair bit in the lead up to WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2019 and then subsequently defeated at the event itself – albeit with the help of around two dozen men – Roman Reigns could use a bounce back, fair to say. Ziggler really only exists to be defeated en route to yet more matches with King Corbin. So that’s what you’ll get here, Roman Reigns over. This is also hardly the kind of event that one would expect any shenanigans or heat-seeking in general, so it’s about as safe a bet as you’ll find.
It should of course be noted that this match is not happening live from some unique location, but was instead taped after this past week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
