Ladies and gentlemen, Monday Night Raw is well underway now as I type this! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and the opening match of tonight’s Raw – which also happens to be the only match actually announced in advance for tonight – just concluded!
It saw Buddy Murphy take on Aleister Black in a rematch from WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2019. The two of them pit their undefeated streaks (since joining Raw) against one another on that event, which saw a brutal physical fight as expected, which Black won in the end.
You can see an excerpt of my recap of this match below:
Murphy wants the Black Mass mocking setup, but Black stops it with a leg breaker! Thrust kick quells Black’s comeback though! Murphy wants the Kamigoye but Black stops it, Black fights back, combos traded, Spinning Heel Kick from Black, Pump Knee from Murphy, Brainbuster from Black! Both men laid out, standing ovation! They’re both worn out, slowly fighting to their feet… Murphy with a jumping knee! Hooks for a Murphy’s Law but Black escapes into a Victory Roll, kickout, Sudden Black Mass! Before Murphy can fall, Black catches him with his boot… gets the crowd going as he takes him slowly to his feet, another vicious Black Mass gets the win!
Winner: Aleister Black
It was an absolutely rad match, maybe the best main roster WWE match of December! How much that’s saying I’d kinda have to give some thought to, but certainly an outlier regardless! Black and Murphy have quite the chemistry, though if you’ve been following them for any stretch of time it’s hardly a big surprise. They sure do stand out though with their hard hitting styles. It’s great that they actually let them put on matches like this, rather than make them work the same as everyone else.
Black continues his winning ways and looks set to rise in 2020. Incidentally, it was great hearing the crowd slowly get into this. The patient efforts to make new stars may pan out yet.
