Following Masvidals arrest, until now there has been no official statement from the UFC, nor the UFCs head Dana White.
Several weeks after the fight between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal – where Masvidal got his ass kicked – the Cuban Gamebred lost his temper and attacked ‘The Chaos’ Covington in a public restaurant in Miami Beach.
Dana White Approves Jorge Masvidals Assault On Covington!?
The reason behind this unpleasant experience was Colby Covington’s trash talk where he insulted Masvidal saying he is a ‘deadbeat dad’ and a ‘bad husband’ owing alimony and child support payments.
This caused a whirlwind of breaking news and articles on the internet and the world divided its opinions – some took Jorge Masvidals’ side, and some defended Colby Covington.
‘There’s something that’s called f*cking man code’. These scandal posts and reactions culminated two days ago when Dana White stood behind Jorge Masvidal approving the assault.
If the above was not enough he added: ‘When you start talking about people’s families, it goes to a whole other level, man. You talk about people’s families and you’re walking out of a restaurant, you better be ready for a guy like Jorge Masvidal to run up on you. Is anyone shocked? He talked sh*t about his kids and his wife, you think that he’s not going to do that? Of course, he’s going to do that.’
In any case, now the Gamebred is facing a charge for aggravated battery and criminal mischief. He might go to prison for up to 15 years. Now that is something that nobody wants. Being away for 15 years ends your career, destroys your life, and terminates your reputation as a professional.
Now, to be subjective, being a man, the thing that you honor the most is your testosterone-fueled ego. You value your pride and you do not allow anyone trash talk about your family and kids. All men can agree on this with me, however before acting and going full-Masvidal on someone you will think twice. You will think about what this kind of action will do to you afterward.
Back to Dana White’s statement – It is pathetic, to say the least. A head of a worldwide company and a head of a promotion – that is the Rolls Royce of MMA promotions – condoling violence outside the octagon. If not judging Masvidals actions, he should have kept his mouth shut and avoided taking sides on this.
However, I think that Dana White as a businessman has a different goal in the end. He wants to take this rivalry to a maximum level, so when he organizes a rematch he can make a ton of money.
Since we spoke about reputation, ego, and pride – Dana White should care most about the reputation of his promotion. He should care about the pride of the fighters that are chosen to fight in his promotion. And lastly, he should stop using ‘cheap’ situations like this to maximize his profit.
