The UFC’s head Dana White has had enough of Alex Oliveira. The Brazilian welterweight fighter has not been doing great lately. He had four consecutive losses in a period of one and a half years.
For one and a half years, Alex The Cowboy Oliveira did not have anything new, or anything exciting to offer to the UFC scene. This is if we are not counting that he was offering him as a boxing bag to his opponents.
Alex Oliveira Fired From the UFC – Four Consecutive Loses, It Is Too Much For Dana White!
In the ‘golden’ period of his career, from 2012 to 2015, he knew how to bring a show for the UFC fanatics. He managed to deliver 8 knockouts out of 18 win-fights, the remaining being submission endings. He only lost 3 fights during this whole period and was actually putting to use his Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu abilities.
What happened to The Cowboy through the years? Is this drop in quality due to his aging, or pure incompetence to cope with the new fighters and the new fighting styles that they incorporate into their backgrounds?
His downfall started in 2017, at UFC 218 with his loss to Yancy Medeiros and has not ended until his final fight in 2022 at the UFC 272.
During this long period of 5 years many new fighters emerged, many events have been organized and Alex Oliviera, the loser that he is, did not manage to win a single new fan for this whole period. And that is understandable, how can you gain supporters if all that you do is lose?
In the past, he had brought attention to himself, not by fighting in the octagon, but by his domestic violence accusations. In one interview after the ‘incident’, he said: “We had an argument, she and I, like every couple has. And it is not true that I hit her.
If I threw a punch on a woman, I would have killed her, so the story is wrong.” He also added: “With everything that happened, she’s been by my side the entire time. We’re very happy. I tell her how happy I am. I have no words for this woman. She’s the kind of woman that every man would like to have.”
Whether these are just empty words, or it is the real deal no one can say. In any case, after the alleged domestic violence, his reputation fell even more. He was indeed a little bit more popular for a period of time, but his publicity was short and bad.
Lastly, when we put the question of whether we will miss him – Nah, that can’t be said. The public, nor the UFC are not missing much by not having him around.
Dana White sensed this timely. He gave him a last chance with the UFC 272 bout against Kevin Holland and The Cowboy blew it. Oliviera was knocked out as soon as the second round started. He received several elbows to his head, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
Dana White did not even bother to give a statement regarding The Cowboy’s departure. He decided to let it go silently. And maybe that is the right choice, maybe that is as much as he is worth.
