On this past week’s WWE Raw, Cody Rhodes was a guest on Miz TV where they went back and forth to build their feud, and during the process Cody used two words the WWE has banned.
Cody referred to the championship title as belt, and used the term wrestler instead of superstar. The Miz was quick to correct him and many thought it was a mistake by Cody.
But this is the WWE and they love to over script everything, so could that be a case of Cody not paying attention to his new employer’s rules?

The WWE has taken some grief from fans as they’ve been mocked for outlawing a bunch of terms they don’t want used on television.
According to sportskeeda.com and Dave Meltzer, the list of terms are “blood, choke, belt, strap, diva, head shot, trauma, kayfabe, Mofos, house show, DQ, The Anti-Diva, spinal injuries, victim, violence, violent, wrestling, wrestlers, WWF, wifebeater, curb stomp, phrases including the word “push” and “being over,” babyface, heel, job, jobber, card, strangle, kill and murder.”
So Cody using belt and wrestler got fans’ attention, and the Miz’s quick and terse corrections brought more attention to them.
Fans were quick to point out the two “mistakes” and Cody quickly became the focus of a rebellious attitude or defended for making a goof.
But a new rumor says it wasn’t a goof at all, and in fact, the words were purposely scripted in.
Learning the WWE way
The belief is that Cody using the terms and being corrected is the WWE’s way of showing he’s an “AEW guy” and needs to relearn the proper, or WWE, way of doing things.
It’s meant to show a transition period for him, but it could also be a shot at AEW for not doing things the proper way.
From Seth Rollins’ proclaiming WWE to be the true professional company to Cody destroying Triple H’s throne on AEW’s first pay-per-view, there’s been an active back and forth since 2019.
While the WWE has chosen the more subtle route, like stealing CM Punk’s needle mover comment for a Roman Reigns shirt and now this, it’s hard to ignore the WWE views itself as the one true wrestling company.
