Colby Covington Says ‘I Deserve To Earn More Than Jorge Masvidal’ – Complains UFC Pay Unfair

Colby Covington Says 'I Deserve To Earn More Than Jorge Masvidal' - Complains UFC Pay Unfair

After the incident that Colby “Chaos” Covington had with Jorge Masvidal, he started expressing his dissatisfaction with the earnings that he makes from the UFC.

For the UFC 272 event, Colby Covington walked away with 310 000 $. However, his rival, Jorge Masvidal had 220 000 $ on top of it.

The Chaos has two losses in the past delivered by his nemesis “The Nigerian Nightmare” – Kamaru Usman. Despite the fact that he does not hold any belt at the moment he still considers himself worthy of a raise.

After his win in the UFC 272 at the press conference, he had a speech. “I want to be paid more than Jorge Masvidal now. He likes to rub that in this face that ‘oh I make more money, and this and that’.”

With his next statement, he angered Masvidal and provoked him so much, that The Gamebred decided to assault him in public afterward. He added: “First off, he doesn’t make more money than me because he pays half of it to Maritza – his ex-wife. Secondly, I NEED to make more money than Jorge. He’s a flash in the pan, two-pump chump like his ex-wife Maritza said.”

After Masvidals assaulted him, Colby Covington might make more money than him now. He can sue and get his cut directly from Masvidal’s money. In addition, facing up to 15 years, Masvidal might be out of his way for good.

The Gamebred has not been doing so great lately, he has three consecutive losses since 2020 and he doesn’t seem to get better with time. Two times he lost from Kamaru Usman and recently from Colby. Is The Chaos really worth the money that he gets paid considering the losing streak?

Nevertheless, we already know that the amount of money that you get from the UFC is not calculated through the prism of how good, or talented you are, and neither is it calculated by your streak of wins. The popularity card is the only variable that is taken into consideration. The more attention that you can bring to the event, the more you’ll get paid.

Masvidal is a very controversial person. Initially he became known for his street fights, his support by Kimbo Slice, etc.

Colby Covington on the other hand had no popularity before his UFC debuts. Even now, when he is 17-3-0, only the UFC fans have heard of him. He brings no drama to the event.

For comparison take Conor McGregor, the ultimate drama king when it comes to the UFC events. As McGregor’s coach and buddy John Kavanagh said – ‘We in the UFC, should all be sending Conor 5% of our shares. He has changed the game for all of us.”

Is it OK that Masvidal is earning more than Colby? If we are taking in consideration his skills, most probably the answer would be no. However, if we take into consideration the attention that he brings to the UFC at the moment – yes it is.
