Roman Reigns is finally getting back on track when it comes to being a fan favorite. He had a few rough years of mixed reactions, but since returning from his fight with leukemia, fans have been solidly behind him. One possible reason for this is that he wasn’t immediatly hot shotted back into the world title picture, yet still managed to stay relevant in the top of the card all year.
His Lone Title Match
In all of 2019, his only title match was against Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Intercontinental Title, which he won but from a disqualifaction, meaning Shinsuke left with the title. This was the only time Roman even sniffed gold in 2019, and while that will more than certainly change come 2020, it was refreshing to see.
Roman Reigns Built Up Good Faith With Fans
Roman did a great job building himself back up in non-title feuds with the likes of Drew McIntyre, Daniel Bryan & Rowan, and currently Baron Corbin. He has remained a strong prescence, but not the top man of either brand despite being the top pick for the revamped Friday Night Smackdown.
He also was able to elevate a few newer talents, like Buddy Murpy who left their match in August on Smackdown looking like a champ. Another person who benefitted greatly from facing Roman Reigns was Keith Lee, who faced Roman in the final stretch of the mens Survivor Series matchup, and got some incredibly close falls.
WWE easily could have tried to cash in on Romans status as a cancer survivor for storylines, but instead we just got to see him return to what he was basically doing before.
What Could Be Next For Roman?
He is still trying to finish his business with Baron Corbin and his goons, and made headway in that when he knocked off Dolph Ziggler at Steve Harveys New Years Special on FOX. He will almost certainly enter the Royal Rumble as a favorite to win the whole thing once again.
With rumors of him facing ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania, we can only hope that Roman is able to remain a fan favorite; and not end up under another chourse of negative feedback from fans like every other time he was pushed towards a title match at Wrestlemania.
