Jorge Masvidal Avoids Getting Personal – We Either Keep It Professional Or We Don’t

Jorge Masvidal Avoids Getting Personal - We Either Keep It Professional Or We Don’t

Since Masvidal’s aggravated assault on his past pal and roommate – who turned opponent and nemesis, Colby Covington, the duo has been silent. Not many statements have been made.

Jorge Masvidal is famous for his street fights and skills in the octagon. Secondary, by his correctness and professionalism. He never insulted anybody’s family or made a scene at a press conference if it was not called for. So, most probably you already get the point, the above-mentioned issue that he had – presents a great indication of why he avoids being personal.

We Either Keep It Professional Or We Don’t – Jorge Masvidal Avoids Getting Personal

Colby Covington got carried out by the atmosphere and insulted Masvidal, his wife as well as his children. And you know from a basic male ethos you DO NOT involve someone’s kids in a beef. If you do that you face the consequences.

“Lines that you just don’t cross is: I’m not going to talk about your mom, or kids, I don’t care about your wife. For my problems with you, I come at you only. And I don’t care how much I dislike any of you.” – said the BMF Champion.

Masvidal continued and explained why he felt like Colby Covington insulted his manhood and reacted the way he reacted – “When you’re involving other people, like, if I was to say something about your wife and you get home – then you have to answer to your wife, I’m putting you in a fucked up spot for no reason. And that is not good. That’s not professional, right? That’s personal. So then, if you, one day, see him, and you’re like, ‘Yo, what’s all this shit you were talking about?’ It’s no longer professional. It’s back to the personal. And I did exactly that, I got personal, as he did when he spoke about my family.”

The BMF Champion then explained how he never mixed up the professional and personal, even though he comes from a tougher environment than The Chaos. He fought in street fights with no clear rules, but he obeys the rules when fighting in the octagon. He tries to be as clean as possible and he does not bring the street elements into prizefighting combat.

Even though the Gamebred lost to Colby Covington at the UFC 272, the result is not what brought the noise to this event. The aftermath brought the attention of the journalists and of the public.

Many public figures are taking Masvidal’s side on this. Many from the UFC as well.

The moral of the story is that professional fighters need to keep things professional. Once it gets personal, there is no going back and all hell breaks loose.

What we say from The Overtimer is that we want to see them resolve this professionally. Arrange a re-match. It might finish much differently this time.
