Conor McGregor is looking to come back to the UFC in style. He wants to come back directly with a title shot. Is this a good idea? The Podcaster Joe Rogan is sure that it is not.
As Conor McGregor announced his comeback, he is forcing more and more that he fights the current UFC Welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, directly. Kamaru Usman is a really strong ‘player’ in this UFC business. Kamaru is the best fighter pound for pound. He is known for delivering unbelievable KOs to fighters who are currently active in the UFC. What would happen to a newcomer, or a comeback fighter? You can imagine.
Joe Rogan Says – Conor McGregor Better Take A Warm Up Fight Before Facing Kamaru Usman
“If Conor wants the most chance of success, I would say fight a guy who is a little below championship level. Maybe a guy on the come-up, who Conor has an advantage over, but it’s still a competitive fight. Give him a test, but don’t put him in there right away with Usman.” – Joe Rogan said.
The ‘rusted’ Conor has not had a fight since his loss to Dustin Poirier, almost a year ago. On top of that, in this fight, he broke his leg, so in the months following the fight he was not even training, He was resting so the leg can heal properly.
There is a reason why usually the coaches of the top-notch fighters are advising them after a short or long time off to take a warm-up fight. It’s the correct thing to do before jumping in and fighting someone who is holding a title. The reason is that the bodies and minds of these fighters need to come off this resting ‘phase’ and get into fight mode.
“I think what Conor needs to do is what Conor wants to do. If Conor thinks he can go up and fight Usman and make a big payday, try to become a three-division champion, he should do that. He should do whatever he wants to do. But if I was like a manager to him, I would say the best path to success is a ‘Cowboy’ fight. No disrespect to ‘Cowboy,’ but that fight turned out to be kind of like a warm-up fight.”
Will Conor take this advice or not remains the time to tell. However, it will be smart of him to take it. Of course, he is money hungry, the same as Dana White, but for the sake of the best fighting experience and the best strategy health-wise, he should warm up first.
Conor’s warm-up fight might be Donald Cowboy Cerrone, as Joe suggested, Michael Chandler, Belal Muhammad, Vicente Luque, etc.
Whoever he confronts will present a serious fight. However, the odds will be that he will have an edge over them.
In the end, even though this is advice that he needs to take, we are speaking about the Notorious. He is known to break such ‘rules’. So how will the situation develop is solely on Conor’s pick.
