Ladies and gentlemen, it is time for another edition of Friday Night SmackDown! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here for a live recap of WWE SmackDown!

Daniel Bryan is backstage taping up his fists. The Miz steps up to him. He says there’s nothing in this world that he needs more than to avenge what the Fiend did to his family. He wants to take away the one thing that he cares about but Bryan beat him last week and earned the right. So while he waits and figures out what to do next, he has one thing to say to Bryan: defeat the Fiend at Royal Rumble. Not just for him but for everyone.

Bayley and Sasha come out. Bayley says people have probably been thinking about their resolutions, but let’s not lie to ourselves, they won’t follow through on any of it. Change is tough. And by the looks of you guys I can see that you don’t got what it takes to make any kind of positive change in your pathetic lives. Says in 2019, Bayley and Sasha made the tough changes, did what was necessary to become successes and now they are leaders of the SmackDown locker room. She’s about to move on to Lacey Evans but she’s interrupted before she even gets to insult her!

Lacey and Dana go out onto the stage. I guess they were supposed to mock Lacey’s daughter again there because Lacey immediately insinuates that they did. Says all she wants is to build a better life for her daughter and it makes her sick that they’re using a seven year old to get to her. Nikki and Alexa come out as well and Alexa talks about the personal issues between these two teams and asks if they even belong in this match. Nikki points out that they do, especially if they want to get their tag titles back.

Sasha Banks & Bayley vs. Lacey Evans & Dana Brooke vs. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross

Bell rings, Lacey with a snapmare on Sasha, Sasha escapes into the ropes. My feed is very messy right now, this has happened with Fox before… hopefully it doesn’t straight up stop again, but it looks like it wants to. Nikki tags in, roll-up, kickout, and I’m just getting a still image now. Right, switching to a livestream now because they’re actually forcing me too, Dana Brooke in to take control, Alexa tags in, roll-through takedown cover for 2. Seems the live feed has come back. Sasha and Bayley with double teams to get back in the swing, Sasha with a standing dropkick on Alexa for a cover, kickout. Alexa rises and hits a jawbreaker, Bayley charges in but gets tossed into Dana, headscissor takes Sasha into Evans! Nikki Cross off the top rope with a crossbody on everyone on the floor to take out everyone but Sasha! Sasha posts Nikki as we go to commercial break.

We come back and Dana Brooke hits Sasha and Bayley with a handspring back elbow in the corner, gets Sasha with a Snap Suplex and a handspring splash. And the video feed freezes again, great. Back on the live stream, Dana is able to handle both Banks and Bayley. Sasha eventually clips her, gets a big running knee to the face in. Sasha and Bayley double team her, Bayley with a back suplex, Sasha covers for a nearfall. She’s utterly stunned that Dana kicked out of that back suplex.

Dana counters a suplex from the corner with a Tornado Suplex. Tag to Lacey, house of fire, takes Bayley down, standing moonsault. Floatover from the corner, snapmare. Wipes off her forehead, running kick to the chest. Springing Bronco Buster, wants her double jump moonsault but Sasha pulls Bayley out of the ring and she crashes and burns! Bayley covers, Alexa and Nikki have to break up the pin. Match breaks down as everyone enters the ring, Sasha and Bayley with a double team slam on Nikki, tries one on Lacey too but she slips away, Bayley gets pulled from the ring by Dana who then tags in, Lacey with a Women’s Right on Sasha, senton off the top from Dana Brooke – she gets the pin!!

Winners: Dana Brooke & Lacey Evans

See now that’s the kind of thing that can actually help Dana out, make her look good and also let her win.

Backstage, Otis meets up with Mandy Rose and informs her that his mother was watching as Ziggler ruined the fruitcake she made for Mandy. Tucker pulls Otis away as they have a match for tonight.

In a different part of backstage Big E and Kofi Kingston try to cheer up the Miz by letting him know what a great decade he’s had, noting that Miz and Kofi are tied for the record of how many titles they won. They serve him a platter of pancakes assembled to say 2020. Miz takes issue with this, saying it’s not about titles right now, the Fiend threatened his family and they have no idea how that feels. He smacks the pancakes from Kofi’s hand. E wants to jump him but Kofi holds him back. Says Miz needs to blow off some steam and he’ll give him the chance here tonight.

Elias in the ring. Says new year, new him. He has hopes for 2020. Says he hopes Sami Zayn gets punched in the jaw. And if Shane McMahon returns, send his ass to Raw. Revival needs a change, they’re harder to watch than a Dolph Ziggler comedy act. If Baron Corbin leaves he won’t complain, says he’s like an STD he just won’t go away. Claims someone in the crowd knows what he means. Says at the Rumble everyone will walk with him.

Recap of what’s gone on with the Revival, Scott says he was all torn up over the holidays after being put through a Christmas tree. They talk up how stupid the stip was, and how everyone wants to make a joke out of them. Shorty G goes up to them to say that they shouldn’t worry about what other people say, he tuned out the noise a while ago. Dash and Dawson pretend to heed this advice only to transition into a ton of short jokes. Shorty says “Rise over size”, if you’re comfortable in your own skin you can do anything. Revival say anything except beat them in a match. This eventually leads to Wilder and G agreeing to a singles match and it looks like it’s starting immediately after.

    Shorty G vs. Dash Wilder

Shorty G with a flying Headscissors, Butterfly Suplex for a nearfall. Dash takes him up top, Back Superplex for a nearfall. G with a back kick, snapmare, takes Dash to the outside. Throws him back in, goes up top, crossbody, Dash rolls through and covers for a nearfall! Fireman’s carry, G escapes, picks the leg for the Ankle Lock! Dash rolls through takes G into the corner, roll-up for a nearfall! Whip, G with a floatover and sunset flip for a nearfall. Dash takes G onto his shoulders and tosses him onto the top rope! But G outwrestles Wilder, takes him down into the Ankle Lock for the quick submission.

    Winner: Shorty G

Afterwards Dawson jumps G, Revival hit Shatter Machine! They continue their beatdown…

But then, Sheamus’ music hits! Out he comes as Revival hold G up and toss him at him as he enters the ring! Sheamus chases them out… then turns and nails G with a Brogue Kick!

    The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston

Miz shoots Kofi off the ropes, Kofi with a shoulder block, leap frog, monkey flip. Kofi with a roll-up, Miz reverses for a nearfall. Kofi leap frogs, flying back elbow. Miz charges, Kofi evades, Miz ends up falling to the floor. Kofi wants a tope, Miz evades so Kofi does his little headbounce to stay in the ring. Miz slowly re-enters. Gets him down for a Figure Four, Kofi kicks him away, Miz gets him in the corner though, It Kicks! Charging knees. Kofi with the Shuriken! Kofi slips into the ring, Boom Drop! Starts a-clapping. Trouble In Paradise ducked, Miz wants his neckbreaker into the backbreaker but Kofi escapes, tries for the SOS, Miz turns it into a Skull Crushing Finale attempt but Kofi counters with a victory roll, gets the pin!

    Winner: Kofi Kingston

Miz looks stunned… jumps Kofi from behind! E rushes into the ring and Miz bails, leaves in a huff as the crowd chants “You Suck”! Miz is indignant at the crowd for this. Says he gave them everything.

Backstage, one of the assorted interviewer girls is with Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns. Bryan says we see what happened with Miz, everyone comes away from the Fiend a changed man, everyone but him. He proclaims he’ll defeat him at the Royal Rumble. Roman says that’s good ’cause he intends on winning that Royal Rumble and he’d love to take him on at WrestleMania. Bryan says he can take him on anytime and he’ll be double ready at Mania. Roman says it sounds like the only ones who aren’t ready are Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler.

Backstage, Interviewer wishes to talk to the Miz, but out of his locker room comes John Morrison instead! He says Miz has said all he has to say here tonight. Well that was a debut, I guess.

Otis in the ring for a match, Drew Gulak comes out claiming that he has several hundred slides worth of a Powerpoint Presentation on why Mandy Rose will never date Otis Dozovitch. He pulls him into the ring and the bell rings.

    Otis Dozovich vs. Drew Gulak

Otis beats the everloving hell out of Drew as Mandy, Sonya and Dolph watch from backstage. Otis nails the Caterpillar for once, Vader Splash for the win.

    Winner: Otis Dozovich

Backstage, Braun Strowman is WALKING, for his match up next.

    Braun Strowman vs. Cesaro

Cesaro struggles early with Braun tossing him around with his great might. Commercial break. We come back to see Cesaro clip the legs out from under him with a dropkick. Distracts the ref as Shinsuke gets a leaping kick in on Braun, Cesaro with a driving uppercut for the nearfall. Cesaro wearing Strowman down with a tight headlock. Braun hikes Cesaro up onto his back, slams him against the corner to break. Nakamura goes up to the apron to distract, right hand from Braun missed but the left knocks him to the floor! Strowman plows through Cesaro who bails. Looks out at the folks on the floor, makes his spinning gesture.

Braun escapes to the ring, and runs around the ring to smash through Cesaro and Shinsuke. Sami hides under the ring as Strowman goes through Cesaro again instead and throws him into the ring. Hoists him up for a Powerslam, Sami rushes into the ring to cause a distraction, Braun chases him and he bails, Cesaro tries to clip him from behind, hooks for the Neutralizer but Braun escapes for the Powerslam for the win!

    Winner: Braun Strowman

Milliseconds after getting the three, Shinsuke rushes into the ring and nails Braun with the Kinshasa! Heel team makes their leave. Sami should really come up with a name for his group.

Roman Reigns & Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler & King Corbin

Corbin pummels Roman in the corner. Roman ducks a shot, haymaker to the face. Corner ten punches, leads to a Samoan Drop. Corbin bails, Roman rushes out for the Drive-By! Ziggler gets in Roman’s face, Corbin attacks him from behind and takes him into the ring. Ziggler tags in, Reigns with a big boot. Tag to Bryan, comes in with an uppercut! Whip reversed, ducks a shot, Bryan takes Ziggler to the floor and nails him with a baseball slide… but then Bray’s laughter echoes throughout the arena as the lights flash. Commercial break.

We come back to see the heels controlling, Ziggler slaps Roman and demands he does something. Roman with a right hand, but Ziggler quells him with a neckbreaker, tags to Corbin. Corbin wants his ring-around-the-ringpost but runs into a Superman Punch! Roman makes the hot tag, Corbin tags to Ziggler, Bryan with his flip over Ziggler’s head out of the corner, charging flying elbow! Running dropkick in the corner, Yes Kicks commence! Takes Ziggler up top, Super Rana! Crowd behind him, chants of “Yes” as the classic Yes Kicks ensue! Shot to the head ducked as always, roll-up gets reversed into the LaBell Lock! Corbin has to break up the hold! Tries for a chokeslam but Bryan escapes, Roman runs through Corbin with a Spear! Bryan hits the Buisaku Knee on Ziggler… but the lights go out.

The Fiend appears in front of the broadcast table, the red lights are here! Bryan hits the ropes for a suicide dive, does not take Fiend down! Fiend throws Bryan to the post, runs, Bryan evades and he posts himself! Bryan up on the apron, charges off for a flying knee, but the Fiend catches him in the Mandible Claw! Throws Bryan into the barrier, destroying it. Fiend disappears.

Winners: Roman Reigns & Daniel Bryan (by DQ)

There is of course no bell or mention of a result as usual these days in WWE but I’ll call that one for them. Reigns checks on Bryan, Ziggler and Corbin jump him from behind! Drag him into the ring where they put handcuffs on him and prepare the dogfood…

BUT THE USOS ARRIVE TO MAKE THE SAVE! Double Superkick takes Ziggler out on the ramp! And another for Corbin in the ring, driving him out of the ring! Stereo Topes take out both men! Usos get the cuffs off of Roman as the crowd chants “Uso”! That ends tonight’s show.

I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, by which I mean I’m a hardcore fan of wrestling... but I also have nothing against hardcore wrestling! I’ve been watching since 2006, back when I was 12 years old. In that time I’ve fervently followed WWE, TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground and others. Today I’m most passionate about NXT, New Japan and especially AEW! You could call me a modern wrestling savant but I know my old school stuff as well... I’ll be your huckleberry all night long.
