We all remember how the Volkanovski vs Korean Zombie went. It was the main bout of the event, and now that it passed we may surely say that it was deserved.
The bout finished with Volkanovski coming out as a winner by a TKO. There has been much fame and stories around this bout. After almost one month the UFC Newsletters are still writing about it.
Alexander Volkanovski Still Has Swollen Fists After UFC 273
The Great Volk extended his control over the featherweight division with this victory. However, not all is so great after the fight for the Macedonian-born fighter.
In a recent interview for TMZ Sports, the fierce Alexandar revealed that his hands are still swollen from the bout and he is still struggling to train.
“My hands are sore and stuff like that and I’ve got to do what we’re going to do. It was actually a lot worse, but it’s all good. It’s all good now. No breaks. ” – said the featherweight champion.
The champion reveals that he continued with his training recently and he still got it. The Great started the usual weightlifting, he is now able to do heavy bag training and of course, he never stopped with his endurance and cardio exercises.
He also confirmed the rumors and publicized that his plans for fighting in the lightweight division as well are true. Alexander called out Charles Oliveira. He says he is sure of his capabilities and he feels that he can be this two-weight division champion.
“There’s not many people who can do this champ-champ thing. But let’s remember, you haven’t heard me talk about that, you haven’t heard me calling for the shots until now. Why? I believe I’m in a position where I can. I’m a fair dude. I’ve got a lot of people calling me out and I’m pretty straight, I’m like, ‘you don’t deserve it, you ain’t gonna get it, and you shouldn’t be asking for it.’ That’s just how I am. So I haven’t asked for it until I thought I deserved it and I think that’s now.” – He exclaimed.
Volkanovski is a very thoughtful fighter. Even though his aspirations are for the lightweight title now, he is not excluding the option of fighting some featherweight guy ‘who deserves it’.
It was revealed that he would very much like a trilogy fight with his long-time nemesis Max Holloway. and he would like this to happen in his home country – Australia.
The path that the UFC will choose for the rising star is still unpredictable. However, what is sure is that whoever he fights next – it will be a great show. We can only hope that they really give it a thought and match him up with someone who can live up to the challenge.
This Max Holloway bout is a good choice, but already ‘seen’. I personally think that someone fresh would be a much better choice. Of course, all of us would like to see him fight for the lightweight title as well. However, if he needs to go through somebody to get there, like Justin Gaethje, or Dustin Poirier – it would be a great bout.
