Asuka hasn’t been seen in a WWE ring since the Money in the Bank PPV in July 2021, but according to Fightful Select, she’s slotted to return.
Many are guessing that Asuka will return on tonight’s Raw (4/25, and that makes sense as it’s been rumored she was ready to return around WrestleMania.
What makes her return even more enticing is she’s expected to enter into a short feud with Becky Lynch.
From Fightful Select:
“Fightful has been made aware of imminent plans for Asuka to return to WWE Raw. We’ve learned that as of this weekend, the plan was for her to enter at least a short-term program with Becky Lynch.”
Bound by a title
The last time Lynch and Asuka crossed paths was in the emotionally charged segment on Raw when Lynch announced she was pregnant and informed Asuka that as the winner of the Money in the Bank, she had a surprise.
Inside the briefcase was the Raw Women’s Championship as Lynch worked it out for Asuka to be handed the championship when she vacated it.
It was one of the most memorable segment of the Thunderdome Era, and it marks roughly two years since the pair last met face to face in the WWE.
After Lynch lost her title to Bianca Belair at WrestleMania, she’s rumored to return tonight for the first time on WWE TV since her loss.
To give her and Belair’s feud a break, she’ll enter into a feud with Asuka and it’s rumored the focus of it will be that moment when Lynch handed her title over.
She’ll be disappointed in Asuka for losing the title and question her dedication and skill to hold it.
Women’s division episode
It’s possible tonight will be a women’s division centric show since Belair will defend the Raw Women’s Championship against Sonya Deville.
The WWE has plenty of talent to pull from to set up a qualifying match for the Women’s Tag Team Championship or more, so it looks like a distinct possibility of this happening.
We could be wrong, but it’d make sense for the WWE to promote their women’s division as it’s growing with returning stars and is capable of giving us excellent matches and storylines if WWE Creative will get out of the way.
It’ll be fun to have an entertaining Raw as Asuka returning opens all sort of possibilities.
