The teams for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic have been announced, but there is one mystery to be told. The two blocks are from NXT & NXT UK. NXT will be represented by Undisputed Era, The Forgotten Sons, Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne, & KUSHIDA with a mystery partner. NXT UK will be bringing along Grizzled Young Veterans, Gallus, Imperium & South Wales Subculture. It should be a fantastic tournament, but who will be teaming with KUSHIDA?
Return Of The Time-Splitters?
During KUSHIDA’s time in NJPW, he had a partnership with one-half of the legendary Motor City Machine Guns, Alex Shelly. Shelly has recently appeared for Ring of Honor, but it could be on a by appearance basis as I can find no mention of him signing a contract with the company. Shelly has also been at the WWE Performance Center as a guest trainer, so there is some connection there.
Shelly & KUSHIDA would have great success in the NJPW Junior Heavyweight Tag Division, with them being former tag team champions. Their chemistry is near unmatched and Shelly joining his old partner for even a brief run would be incredible for fans.
Tyler Breeze & KUSHIDA?
KUSHIDA came to the aid of the Fashion Police during their battle with The Forgotten Sons recently on NXT. With Fandango injured, we won’t be seeing the Fashion Police in the Dusty Rhodes classic this year. With that relationship in mind, and Breeze needing a partner, a partnership with KUSHIDA could be exactly what is needed. It would be less exciting than seeing a Time-Splitters reunion, but they would make a very solid tag team.
This will finally put some spotlight on both men as well, and give them a chance to break out from the pack of NXT. KUSHIDA for all his hype has underwhelmed so far, hopefully 2020 can finally be his year.
Regardless of who the mystery partner is, it adds a nice level of mystery to this tournament which should help bring in some viewers as the Wednesday Night Wars rage on between NXT & AEW.
Who do you want to see as KUSHIDA’s partner in the tournament? Let us know in the comment section down below, and stay tuned for next week as we will likely know for sure who will be teaming with him by then!
