The wrestling world is abuzz about the coming NJPW & AEW joint show. These two companies have worked together for a while, but at Forbidden Door – their rosters will clash. This opens up a great deal of dream matches for fans, but NJPW ace Kazuchika Okada wonders if fans would want to see a rematch with Kenny Omega in the United States.
Is There Unfinished Business Between Kenny Omega & Kazuchika Okada?
The matches between Okada & Omega remain some of the greatest in professional wrestling history. Four times between 2017 & 2018 they clashed, with each one building off the last before they met in an epic Best Two Out Of Three Falls match at Dominion 2018.
This was during a period when both men were in peak condition, and Okada now wonders if this is still a desirable match. While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Okada would have the following to say when asked about Omega.
“Is there still unfinished business there? I’ve already wrestled a lot of great opponents. It was an honour for me last month to team with Tatsumi Fujinami and wrestle against a legend like Yoshiaki Fujiwara. There are a lot of truly great professional wrestlers out there and a lot of possible dream matches. If running me and Kenny back really is a dream match, well then that’s definitely a direction to take.”
Kenny Omega Is Still Recovering From Injuries
Right now, Kenny Omega remains on the injured list after 2021 – while Okada is set to defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Tetsuya Naito tonight at Wrestling Dontaku. Omega is not expected to wrestle at Forbidden Door, but could show up for the first time in 2022 to remind fans that he’s still around.
Currently expected matches for the event include CM Punk vs. KENTA, Jon Moxley vs. Will Ospreay, and more. Fans are hoping to see Okada at the event, with him expressing interest in Bryan Danielson as a potential opponent.
