As touched on briefly in the Smackville report, Finn Balor was intended to challenge Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at the aforementioned Network special. However he was pulled from the card on the day of the show. WWE cited an undisclosed injury in a tweet. Despite this, PWInsider reported it was not an injury, but actually some kind of illness that he’d come down with.
You can WWE’s brief tweet on the matter below:
During the week, @FinnBalor suffered an undisclosed injury. @WWE Medical has unfortunately not cleared him for competition tonight at #SMACKVILLE. It is unknown who or if @ShinsukeN defends his title tonight. Stay tuned as we learn more.

Today, Finn Balor sent out a picture of himself laid up in a hospital bed with an IV on Instagram. He indeed appears much more like he’s sick then injured, but as always was seen with a smile. He added a caption that simply reads, “SummerSlam”.

Obviously, he’s fully intent on appearing at SummerSlam and expects to be fully fit by then. He’s scheduled to face Bray Wyatt, the newly-branded Fiend, at the PPV on August 11th.
Finn Balor is also scheduled to compete against Dolph Ziggler this Tuesday on SmackDown Live. To me, that match seems a fair bit more in doubt, but as of now they’re still promoting it on WWE.com.
Notably, Finn is already rumored to be taking some time off after SummerSlam. So hopefully he’ll have time to get himself into better health. We wish him a speedy recovery with whatever ailment plagues him.
