The heavy duo met and did not disappoint. After an exciting face-off, they continue their rivalry and perform a great fight which ends unexpectedly. They arrange a great show that lasts three rounds but ends disappointedly. This fight is a pivotal lightweight bout that pivots Jan Blachowicz straight to a title shot. Once again he shows why he held the position of a champion before Glover Teixeira took it from him.
Blachowicz starts yet another of his win streaks, this being his first one in the series. Aleksandar Rakic faces an end to his win streak of two and drops on the ranking list.
Blachowicz Destroyed Rakic, Sent Him To The Floor With A Leg Kick
Round one starts and fires everybody up. Despite the belief that the fight will start passive, Rakic immediately threw a jab and both start to trade leg kicks. The situation settles down a bit before they start exchanging body shots once again. Blachowicz is cut above his eye, and that’s when it all starts. Like a wounded animal he starts blasting at Rakic and ends up winning the round.
The second round shows us that Rakic came ready for a fight as well. Presents to us that once again, we cannot determine the fighter who will win the bout. When the round starts, Rakic charges to Blachowicz and performs a takedown.
Even though the takedown went as planned, Blachovicz, as expected, had much better ground technique than him. Quickly he positions himself on top of the Austrian and is most probably looking to perform a lock. Luckily it doesn’t happen, so we are honored with another round. Rakic ends up a winner of this round.
The third round is the one that determines the winner. Blachowicz starts this round as he means it. He gives an impression that he is there indeed to win the bout and walk home with a title shot. Performs a fast and powerful combination, but is being met by a sharp jab by Rakic which almost knocks him down.
The referee saves him since his mouthpiece is about to fly out of his mouth. The round takes an unexpected turn as the dazed Blachowicz lands a leg kick and as a consequence, Rakic’s knee buckles forcing him down. The referee stops the fight and proclaims Jan Blachowicz the winner of the bout by a TKO.
Even though the duo performed a great watching show, the end did disappoint all of the UFC fans. I mean, a proper knockout, would have done the deed properly, but a TKO by an injury is not something that anybody wants to see.
As a consequence of this, Rakic will face some downtime, since his knee will need some recovery, however, he’ll be back. Jan Blachowicz on the other hand will most probably have the title shot, which he so avidly wants.
