When it comes to professional wrestling, nothing lasts forever. Talent will come and go, and for various reasons. Some get fed up and leave companies due to frustration, other succumb to injury or simply reach their end. Occasionally, they are able to break out into other industries and lose time for what made them a star in the first place. This is the case with John Cena. The 16 time world champion, and face of WWE for years is very strictly a part time wrestler at this point. He is also about to hit a career milestone no one could have expected.
A Full Year Without Wrestling For The First Time For John Cena
With his current last match being a Fatal Four Way which determined the Number One contender for the Universal Champion at Royal Rumble on January 14th, 2019, it will soon be an entire year since we have seen Big Match John enter the ring for a match. He appeared at last years Wrestlemania where he brought back his Doctor of Thugganomics character to have a segment with Elias, but he didn’t compete at the event. He didn’t compete at a single PPV for all of 2019, a first for him since 2002.
If he doesn’t appear on Monday Night RAW tomorrow evening and have a match, it will be the first time in his 20 year career that he went an entire calendar year without competing in a match. For all the flack John Cena got in his prime as a wrestler, he was an absolute workhorse for WWE. He’d rush back from any injury, and work upwards to 200 matches a year. This came at the cost of overexposure, but you really can’t discount his insane work ethic.
Cena Deserves A Big Send Off
He gave his life to professional wrestling, and if that Fatal Four Way is his final match ever, that would honestly be fine. However he deserves a bigger send off than a match on RAW though, so hopefully we will see him again. They have the story of him breaking Ric Flairs record of world title wins in their back pocket, maybe they can use it and have him leverage his career for one last title shot in a few years at Wrestlemania? Who knows, all we know about John Cena right now is he is making a very good name for himself in the world of acting.
