When wrestling fans discuss a superstar’s “Moves of Doom”, it’s usually their signature moves that you will see every match, and yes, their finisher is included. Let’s look at the five moves of doom of Kevin Nash.

People have come to appreciate Nash more nowadays than they did during his in-ring peak. Personally, I always thought that not only was he incredible on the mic, but he was also top three best dressed in the promotion regardless of where he signed. That’s another article for another day, folks.

    Sidewalk Slam

Kevin Nash’s Sidewalk Slam isn’t going to wow you on its own. It’s a Sidewalk Slam. Big Boss Man had one that landed with more impact. However, there were times when it looked really good—such as when someone is coming off the ropes and he scoops them up for the slam—and times when it looked meh. Usually, when it looked meh, it was when Nash had to pick the opponent up, situate them for the slam, then slam them.

The Sidewalk Slam often looked fine with smaller wrestlers where he could hold them up for a bit before pulverizing their spine on the canvas.

    DOOM SCALE: 2/5 – Caution

    Big Boot

Even in his early 60s and having gotten knee and hip replacement surgery, Nash is still a very big man with a big foot and at least two miles of legs. His Big Boot is the definition of “doom”. Think about it. You can sense doom coming, you probably know why it’s coming and what form it will take, it’s slow-moving but you can’t avoid doom. It’s going to happen.

The Big Boot became much slower-moving after Nash had some years in WCW. Looking at his stuff as Diesel, he did the same sh** for the most part only he was two or three steps faster and had more energy. The one thing that didn’t change much: The Big Boot.

Like doom, you know it’s coming once you come off the ropes or you’re whipped into the ropes and you see Nash in the middle of the ring. Sure, some might think “Sidewalk Slam” but most of the time if someone is coming off the ropes and running towards Big Sexy, they’re eating the sole of his foot.

Not only that but the damned thing is slow-moving and avoidable but like doom, you’re highly unlikely to dodge the Big Boot.

    DOOM SCALE: 2/5 – Caution

    Short-Arm Clothesline

This is one you’ll probably miss because on any given show you might have seen various clotheslines of differing degrees of viciousness. Nash’s short-arm clothesline wasn’t going to finish the match and you knew it was coming but it was effective at wearing down an opponent. It was more effective on smaller prey but it could down heavyweights as well.

Actually, it was between this move and his running drop across the back which was more effective but was more of something he just did in matches.

    DOOM SCALE: 2/5 – Caution

    Snake Eyes

Listen, the Snake Eyes and the Stun Gun are two of my favorite heel moves. You simply hoist someone up on your shoulder or lift them by their legs and drop the person throat-first across the top rope or head-first onto the turnbuckle. It’s that’s simple! They can be caught coming off the ropes, off the top turnbuckle, or simply lifted but they’re going to land across their throat.

When Kevin Nash did it, he usually just draped his opponents over a shoulder and then chucked them onto the top turnbuckle. In his Vinnie Vegas days, it had more impact since it was his finisher and he pretty much drove their head into the turnbuckle after dropping down.

After that, he tossed them head-first onto the turnbuckle. I prefer his Vegas-style Snake Eyes but either one works.

    DOOM SCALE: 4.5/5 – DOOMED

    Jackknife Powerbomb

Piledrivers are my all-time favorite wrestling move and powerbombs are a respectable second. Outside of one particularly bad occasion—which wasn’t Nash’s fault, by the way—the man always pulled his Jackknife Powerbomb off smoothly. He didn’t need to drill anyone in the mat for it looks vicious.

Nash was almost 7-feet tall. His having some up for a powerbomb was going to be frightening since that’s a lot of floors up only for him to toss an opponent instead of just bombing the ring with their body.

    DOOM SCALE: 4/5 – DOOMED
