Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com has reported that W. Morrissey is finishing up his time with Impact Wrestling and will be moving on after tonight’s taped episode of IMPACT!
Since arriving in Impact Wrestling in April 2021, he’s carved out an extraordinary redemption story in wrestling and his life following his time in WWE and nearly dying due to his problems.
W. Morrissey Makes his Final Impact Wrestling Appearance Tonight (June 2)
He started out in Impact as a heel that condemned fans and fellow wrestlers for abandoning him, and gradually turned into a powerhouse face that embraced the fans and thanked them for being in his corner while in Philadelphia.
It was a near perfect moment and he and Impact Wrestling did an awesome job with it as the old ECW home was where he had been taken out in an ambulance after suffering a seizure in what he said was the lowest point in his life.
With the help of Diamond Dalla Page, he turned his life around and he’s got a great future ahead of him.
Turning the page
While Morrissey recently said his goal was to become the face of Impact Wrestling, it seems odd that he’d choose to leave now after working what was reported several handshake deals but it does make sense in a way.
He may feel he achieved his goal and he’s not wrong. Morrissey has become a main eventer in Impact and is the face of the company in many ways, often getting the biggest pop when he comes out.
He has plenty of options ahead of him as his one off deal with AEW against Wardlow earned him praise and recognition from AEW and WWE, with WWE reportedly wanting to know when his Impact contract expired.
Because of the positive praise, many fans are hoping he’ll go to AEW to continue with a fresh slate, so to speak.
There’s a chance he could return to the WWE despite their mishandling of him previously as he’s older and wiser now. He knows his worth and what he’s capable of doing, and that gives him plenty of options.
Plus, the WWE is putting more on an emphasis on big men again, and he’s slide in.
Wherever he goes, we have little doubt he’ll do what works best for him and find a way to make things work at either destination.
But first, we have his final match tonight as he’ll team with PCO to face Moose and Steve Macklin in what’s sure to be a pay-per-view caliber match.
We can’t wait to see what’s next for Morrissey and we wish him nothing but the best going forward. Thank you for everything and good luck!
