In the main event of NXT this week, we saw a battle royal which could rival the upcoming womens royal rumble in terms of quality. We saw the NXT Womens Division scratch and claw for a chance at the divisions top prize. The field was absolutely stacked, containing all the top stars in the division, some newcomers and unproven talents, and even a surprise return from Kacy Catanzaro who was rumored to have left NXT in 2019. It would be the EST of NXT herself who would come out on top, last eliminating Io Shirai to earn her shot at the NXT Womens Championship. Other major happenings included Dakato Kai running in to eliminate Tegan Nox, and newcomer Shotzi Blackheart eliminating former champion Shayna Baszler from the match. We will see fallout from both of those in the coming weeks.
Could This Bianca Belair Time?
This will not be the first time Bianca Belair has tried to capture the top prize in the NXT Womens Division. She has had two previous attempts on NXT Takeover events to capture the championship. First in a singles outing against Shayna Baszler. The second was in a Fatal Four Way which saw her, Io Shirai & Kairi Sane attempt to take the title from Shayna unsuccessfully. With Shayna not being involved in this championship match, could the standout athlete finally hold gold for the first time in her career?
Who Will Belair Face, Rhea Ripley or Toni Storm?
Belair will have to wait until after Worlds Collide to start making her game plan for her upcoming title match. We could see Toni Storm defeat her longtime rival Rhea Ripley at the event and become the new NXT Womens Championship. That match is one that could go either way. Belair will have to be watching closely to know exactly how to beat the champion no matter who it will be after the dust settles.
Are you excited to see Belair get a shot at the NXT Womens Championship once again, or were you rooting for someone to get their first chance at glory? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below. The Overtimer will keep you up to date on all happenings within NXT & NXT UK as we head towards World Collide. That event happens on Saturday, January 25th.
