This happens to be one of the toughest fights in the recent UFC history. Two very successful fighters meet in what is the biggest light-heavyweight clash since when Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell roamed the octagon.
Jiri Prochazka, despite being an underdog, wins by submission at the last moment. He surprises the whole UFC public and prepares an ending to the bout that nobody expects. As a result, Prochazka becomes the 15th UFC Light Heavyweight champion. Furthermore, with this win, he is the second UFC fighter to attain a title after only two fights.
He returns to his home country the following day and is met with a colossal parade in his honor. The total number of attendants to the parade is somewhere around 7000. They gather and celebrate this as a national victory. Jiri Prochazka is the one and only Czech UFC fighter that becomes a UFC champion in any weight division of the promotion.
Jiri Prochazka Welcomed As A True Champion In Brno – Over 7000 People Attend The Welcoming Parade
Jiri’s homeland the Czech Republic has a population of around 11 million people and Prochazka manages to make them all proud. As a result, he will be a celebrity for the years to come.
Now, the only thing that remains to be done by the UFC fighter is to defend his title. And he will not be short of offers. The light heavyweight division is full of competition and full of potent fighters that are hungry for retaining the title.
As soon as Jiri exits the octagon after his win over Teixeira, he faces Jan Blachowicz. He approaches him and they exchange some words. This immediately gets the UFC fan’s attention and is spreading through social media. Will Blachowicz be the next title challenger? Jiri surely hopes so.
After the bout, in the post-fight interview, Jiri shares the exchange of words between him and Jan.
“It was a little bit friendly, a little bit aggressive. After I said to him yes, okay, let’s go, you’re the next. He started to be aggressive like because he saw the cameras and all these things.” – Prochazka says.
Blachowicz is number one in the light heavyweight rankings, and as such deserves a title shot. Looks like, after Jiri recovers from this bout we will most probably witness the clash between these two.
After all, Jiri even says that he is not satisfied with his performance in the octagon at the IFC 275 and he could have won much easier and earlier. He is sure that he has the potential to do so.
“I was a little bit lazy to set up some situations and to prepare him for the knockout, to watch in the striking. To see him, to see the moments, to see the right place, and catch it. That was my laziness in the fight. He didn’t surprise me with anything.” – Jiri says.
He promises to perform better in his next fight. And he better mean it. Blachowicz is a serious player.
