In the past period of several months, we did witness massive attention given to the Notorious Conor McGregor. During his time ‘away’ he was a constant target for call-outs. Many of them come from actual division champions as well.
Max Holloways is a former UFC featherweight champion that fought Conor McGregor back in 2013 and lost by a decision. According to him, we might not witness Conor McGregor’s return to the octagon. At least not in a foreseeable future. The logic behind this opinion is that Conor already got everything he wants from his fighting career. So why would he bother to come back after all?
Will Conor McGregor Come Back In The Octagon? – Max Holloway Says It Is Unlikely
“With all this Conor talk and saying whatever, he never committed to coming back.” – Holloway says for ESPN. “He never once said he’d come back. And rightfully so, he shouldn’t.”
When you think back on all of Conor’s appearances until now you might figure this out yourself. He hasn’t said even once that he will come back.
“Conor is what everyone wants to be. Everyone wants to get in this fighting game, make the money, and then save your chickens. I wouldn’t even blame him if he didn’t want to come back. If you want to come back, that’s his competitive side straight doing it. … We’ll see what happens. All respect to him.”
Conor already has millions, from his UFC career and his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather. He indeed knows how to enjoy his riches. But he sure knows how to do business as well. He buys expensive properties, such as bars and restaurants, and founds new companies such as his whiskey company. So money is not an issue to him. And aside from it, what more does he have to prove if he comes back?
Conor McGregor doesn’t have a fight for about 1 year. During his most recent fight back in July 2021, he lost to Dustin Poirier. He lost and suffered a serious injury to his leg. After one year of recovery, it is still not as good as it could be.
Holloway on the other hand returns to the octagon next week, on Saturday’s UFC 276 event. He will face Alexander Volkanovski in a trilogy fight that will be the co-main bout for the event.
Holloway wants a UFC title. This is his main goal. He will face the Macedonian Volkanovski, but he is aware that a Conor McGregor fight might come his way if he manages to win against Volkanovski.
“That Conor fight, I tell you all the time, we’re on the shortlist for that.” – Holloway says for MMA junkie. “But first thing is first: We’ve got (Volkanovski). We’ll see.”
