Charlotte Flair repeated another accomplishment that her father did when she won the Royal Rumble last night. Fans are mixed on her as a victor, as both prospective title matches with Smackdown Women’s champion Bayley & RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch have been done to death. While both those feuds have produced some classic matches, especially with Becky Lynch, fans crave something fresh at Wrestlemania. Thankfully for fans, there is a third option for Charlotte Flair. This is ‘The Nightmare’, current reigning NXT Women’s Champion, Rhea Ripley.
Charlotte Flair Putting NXT On The Big Stage Once Again
At the Royal Rumble last night, NXT got a good amount of time to shine in the women’s rumble. Bianca Belair set the new record for eliminations for a woman at 8, and the bulk of the match was handled by talent from the Black & Gold brand. We nearly saw Shayna Baszler win it all, but in the end it was Charlotte Flair. Notable by her absence was the new NXT Women’s Champion, Rhea Ripley. She is one of the most popular in all of WWE, and was in town thanks to her title defense against Toni Storm at Worlds Collide. However, she is already at the peak her division, one she views as stronger than RAW or Smackdowns.
NXT Is The Third Brand Of WWE, Developmental No Longer
With how much prestige the NXT Women’s Championship holds, it is just as worthy a prize for Charlotte to go for as it’s RAW & Smackdown counterparts. Plus, Charlotte has only held that title once, which is unacceptable next to her multiple reigns with the other titles. It would provide fans with a fresh matchup between two dominant forces, do something different with the Royal Rumble winner now that NXT is the third brand, and likely lead to a boost for NXT. Where they are pushing NXT as the proper third brand of WWE, and not their developmental system, having a major role at Wrestlemania would help cement that.
Despite all the positives in this idea, you can never doubt WWE will go for the safe option when it comes to their biggest show. Charlotte & Becky are a safe bet for the company, just one fans are sick of seeing.
