The accusations against Vince McMahon continue to grow as former WWE tag team champion Paul London appeared on Rene Dupree’s recent podcast Café de Renee and he shared some sensitive news about the late Ashley Massaro.
The podcast came shortly before the news that Vince McMahon was stepping down from being WWE’s CEO, and in it London talked about hearing about her death.
The discussion took an unexpected turn when he claimed Vince harassed Ashley on multiple occasions.
Opening up
While the world is watching for any news about the allegations toward Vince McMahon, as well as him now reportedly being investigated by outside authorities, this was the latest news to drop.
London talked about how Vince and Kevin Dunn would try to get Ashley to fly on the jet with them.
“I do remember specifically, many times when she would, she would be crying to me because Vince was propositioning her to fly on the jet with them… like Kevin Dunn — buck tooth Bucky would be telling her that she has to fly on the jet with them. They’d always put the Divas up at like the TV hotel or whatever, you know; he’d been knocking on her door and, you know, trying to get her to answer.
“It’s just like I’m shocked this Vince stuff is just now coming out. I haven’t looked up on a lot of it… I just would rather not, but I’m surprised it hasn’t come out within the last 10 years. But it just goes to show how afraid people are of that power dynamic where they’re so fearful of losing their job or… and it’s like what does that say about you if you’re protecting this 90-year-old f—— corpse with a thong tan line just because he’s a billionaire. I mean, it’s like I said, money changes people.”
Lawsuit and accusations
In a 2016, she was part of a class action lawsuit against the WWE, claiming the company hid the risks of injury that led to neurological damage.
During this time, a claim from 2006 resurfaced, and she alleged that Vince McMahon was encouraged not to report being drugged and raped by US Military staff while in Kuwait during WWE’s Tribute to the Troops.
The WWE denied having any knowledge of the incident and the lawsuit was dismissed in 2018. The WWE also claimed Ashley emailed then an apology for taking part in the lawsuit, but the lawyer, Konstantine Kyros, claimed she never withdrew from the case and the case was pending.
Unfortunately, in 2019, Ashley Massaro was found in her home responsive and she was pronounced dead when she arrived at the hospital ten days before her 40th birthday.
While it wasn’t announced at the time officially, it’s been largely accepted since that her death was a suicide. While this was a tragic end for her, she has helped usher in more awareness for mental health in professional wrestling and will hopefully save more lives in the future.
