WrestleMania was a crucial night in the career of Bianca Belair, as she would redeem her lightning fast loss to Becky Lynch at Summerslam 2021. This would send Lynch sprialling, as she had to try and find her identity without a championship to call her own. However tonight, things will perhaps come full circle – as it’s Summerslam 2022, Belair is champion – and will once again face Becky Lynch. Will things go the same as a year ago – or will she finally move past Lynch once and for all?
No Flash Finish This Year
The bell would ring, and we wouldn’t get a 26 second finish as they went for a measured approach. Belair would throw Lynch off of a headlock attempt, before a rear waistlock would be applied. Lynch fought free before a shoulder tackle, but Belair tried for a leapfrog and was dragged down to the mat.
Hammerlock Armbreaker would follow, before Belair would have that left arm targetted. She’d be whipped into the middle rope arm first, before a double knee armbreaker. This could take away the power of Belair, and set up that Dis-arm-her finish.
A snap armbreaker would follow, before Belair would still power Lynch up for the double chickenwing facebuster before a standing moonsault for a two count. Belair would follow Lynch to the floor and looked for K.O.D onto the barricade – only for Lynch to land on her feet, drag Belair into the barricade and hit a leg drop to the back of the neck.
Back in the ring, a Bexploder Suplex would land, before Belair tried for a vertical suplex and was caught with a small package. La Mistica from Lynch would be countered, but a takedown in the corner would not be. Belair would throw some forearm smashes, before having her ankle picked. Lynch would take her down to the mat and into an armbar attempt – but Belair escaped.
Bianca Belair Proves She’s The Future
A dropkick would send Belair to the apron, but the Dublin Air legdrop would see Belair catch Lynch into a powerbomb. Glam Slam onto the apron would be followed by a rebound suplex attempt, only for Lynch to try and shove her into the ring post – but meeting the post herself. Belair would hit the suplex on the floor, but would shove Lynch into the ring.
Back Handspring Moonsault would follow, but only got a two count. Some shoulder thrusts in the corner would follow, before Belair would take a springboard crossbody. Lynch would be caught into a powerslam attempt, but would slip free, before the Diamond Dust for a two count.
Belair would block a hurricanrana into the Alley Oop – before Lynch would try to move into the Dis-Arm-Her after blocking the K.O.D. Lynch would be taken to the floor, and hit with the K.O.D right infront of the announce table. Belair would almost get the count out, but Lynch would make it in the ring at nine.
Another K.O.D in the ring would be blocked, but Lynch was planted with a spinebuster. 450 Splash would be set, but Lynch would catch her by the braid and pull her into the Manhandle Slam for a very close near fall. Lynch would go for the Super Manhandle Slam, but Belair hit the Spanish Fly and K.O.D to remain champion!
A Massive Return
After the match, Lynch extended a hand – and would shake the hand of Belair – who won not just the match, but the respect of Lynch. Who will challenge Belair next? Well, the music of Bayley would hit – and she was back! After a year away, Bayley is back, and Belair might need to prove herself once again.
Following this was the music of Dakota Kai – who was released from WWE and brought back by new head of creative, Triple H! Also here was Io Shirai, and apparently we have an incredible faction on our hands here. Lynch would stand by Belair, and seems to be back on the face side of things.
