Eddie Hearn, the successful boxing promoter backs up his buddy Dana White in his claims that the low interest and poor ticket and PPV sales are to blame for the cancellation of the match.
We were about to see Jake Paul take on a professional boxer for the first time in his career. He was supposed to fight the son of the ex-heavyweight champion of the world, Hasim Rahman Jr on August 6th and prove to the world that he indeed is a skilled boxer. But, to the great disappointment of Jake’s fans, the fight got canceled days before the date.
Boxing Promoter Eddie Hearn Supports Dana White’s Theory For The Cancellation Of The Jake Paul Fight – They Didn’t Gain Much Interest
The reason for the cancellation according to Jake Paul is that his opponent has not reached the requested body weight, and hence was not eligible to fight the Youtube star.
Stories are emerging from both sides of the ring, blaming each other for the turn of events. But according to analysts and experienced people, the reason for the cancellation is much different than advertised.
“I’m not gonna sit up here and be happy or gloat that their fight fell out.” – Dana says after the UFC 277 event. “Both those guys put in a lot of hard work. They’ve put a lot of training to get ready for this fight, spent money to get ready for this fight.”
“But I will say this – just because you were an accountant here, doesn’t mean you know what the f*** goes on here and doesn’t mean that you can run a fight promotion company. I think that Jake Paul probably needs to get some different people around him.”
Dana White is a former associate with Nakisa Bidarian, the co-founder of Jake’s promotion company. Obviously Dana White is not on good terms with him. In his speech, he is referring to him as being the issue.
“If he’s gonna stay in the sport, he needs to be with guys that actually really know how to put on fights. I think they sold under $1 million in tickets. And it costs $500,000 to turn the f****** lights on at MSG.”
Eddie Hearn is a boxing promoter for a long time. He has the experience knowledge, and nose to sense when something will succeed, or fall into the water. Hearn has worked with Paul when arranging the Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano fight earlier this year. He got to know the Youtuber, and he is backing up Dana White‘s theory. He confirms that tickets have not been selling.
“Well, he wouldn’t know about pay-per-view buys, but tickets weren’t going great, to be fair.” – Eddie states on Instagram.
