Over the last two weeks, Dominik Mysterio has been on the receiving end of an accidental Spear by Edge and then a beat down by Rhea Ripley.
While the spear was clearly an accident, Dominik wasn’t in a forgiving mood when Edge approached him and Rey on August 8’s Raw to apologize and make sure they were good.
Is Dominik Mysterio Setting up Rey Mysterio Against Judgement Day in Heel Turn?
Dominik pretended to be fine with it, then shoved Edge and took offense that Rey would defend a man he’s known for twenty years against his son he’s known for twenty-five years.
Later that night, Rey wasn’t able to find Dominik prior to his match against Finn Balor. While Rey went out alone, Edge remained true to his word and came out to fight off Damian Priest when he tried to interfere.
Rey had the match won and was going for a 619 when Rhea Ripley carried an unconscious Dominik to out to the stage on her shoulder and set him down to force Rey to see his suffering.
Balor took advantage of the distraction to regroup and win, and later Dominik was backstage being check out by the medical team.
Throughout the night we couldn’t help but ask ourselves what if Dom is setting Rey up?
Fear isn’t real, but danger is
Before Ray and Balor faced off, Judgement Day cut a promo were Balor told Rey fear isn’t real as it’s a figment of one’s imagination, but danger is certainly real.
It felt like a play on words, and that Rey’s fear of losing his son isn’t as real as the danger of doing so, and it’s possible we’re about to see Dominik turn heel in the coming weeks.
It’s been teased for a while, but Rey wanted to make sure it’s done right and it may be the case with the direction creative is now going.
And it meshes perfectly with the storyline of Judgement Day wanting Dom from when Vince was running things to now, and it wouldn’t be the first time someone took a beating to fool their friends or family in wrestling.
It’s a proven trope and it works every time if handled right.
When it’s least expected
Of course, for it to work Dom would’ve had to take a real beating from Ripley, and she’s more than capable of doing that so there’s no suspension of disbelief there.
A few more attacks on Dom to “convince” him to join will eventually pay off when he betrays his father at the time when it’s least expected and when Rey needs him the most.
It’ll blow the roof off the arena when it happens and it’ll start a whole new set of storyline possibilities.
Of course, we could be totally wrong and Dom’s not going to turn heel on Rey any time soon. What do you think? Is Dom going to betray Rey or stay true? Let us know in the comments below.
