Today was a big day in regards to the future of NXT UK. After recent tapings were cancelled, and Tyler Bate brought the NXT UK Championship to NXT 2.0 – setting up a potential Unification match with Bron Breakker, the writing seemed to be on the wall for NXT UK. Today, that was made official – with plans to relaunch the brand in 2023 as NXT Europe.
NXT Europe To Replace NXT UK
WWE would announce these plans in a press statement posted to WWE.com. The statement would say the following.
“Following the success of our live events and talent identification efforts throughout all of Europe, we believe this is the perfect time to expand NXT beyond the UK.”
Shawn Michaels would also say the following about these plans while speaking to Metro.
‘This has been a goal of Hunter’s for quite some time, and I think clearly with what has gone on recently with him taking on creative, he felt that now would be a great time to have the ability to do that. NXT UK was one of the first steps in that process.’
We will see the start of this brand at a Worlds Collide event set to the same weekend as Clash At The Castle – the first main roster stadium event in the UK since 1992. Tyler Bate vs. Bron Breakker is expected to main event that event.
With NXT UK On Hiatus, Releases Have Been Happening
However, with NXT UK going on hiatus – there are a list of names who will not be needed in the company for the time being. As of the time of writing, nine names from the NXT UK roster have been released from the company – with more potentially coming.
Flash Morgan Webster, Wild Boar, Mark Andrews, Jack Starz, Ashton Smith, Millie Mckenzie, Sha Samuels, Nina Samuels, Primate, & Dani Luna have all been released from their WWE contracts, likely with a 30 day non-compete clause. While there’s a chance some like Andrews, Webster & Millie are brought back for NXT Europe – nothing is sure about that situation.
