So during last night’s episode of SmackDown, we saw a revelation in the case of Roman Reigns’ mystery attacker. After Daniel Bryan and Rowan defeated the New Day in tag team action, they were still in the ring watching as Roman questioned Buddy Murphy. Murphy himself being a suspect in the case. Buddy at first stated that he saw no one, and wouldn’t tell Roman even if he had. Roman responded by attacking him, pushing him against a wall and demanding a name. Eventually, Buddy relented and explained that it was Rowan, and Rowan alone who he saw. Cue Bryan & Rowan staring on in shock.
But Daniel Bryan isn’t taking this sitting down. After the show, an interviewer caught up to him and asked what he had to say about the accusation. Unsurprisingly, Bryan went into a tirade. He explained that Buddy’s confession meant nothing because it was coerced. He asked the interviewer what he’d do if he had his head pinned to the wall, and was told he wouldn’t be let go until he gave a name. Bryan asserted that there was no doubt the interviewer would give him a name in that situation.
Daniel Bryan thus asserts Rowan’s innocence.
You have to admit, there’s truth to this. You can’t totally take such a thing at face value. And as Bryan pointed out, he denied seeing anyone until Roman started roughing him up.
It rather suits Daniel Bryan to be opposed to Jack Bauer style interrogations in general. But it’s a fair point regardless of your stance. Buddy would’ve been in prime position to lie. And let’s not forget, he’s a suspect in the eyes of many himself. You can’t really discount the possibility that he merely wanted to finger someone else to throw off the scent, can you? Just sayin’…
So, does this cast a new wrinkle on the situation? Are we no closer to finding the true culprit? I still suspect that we’ll know the full story by the time SummerSlam goes off the air. But as of now, there’s seemingly more left to this mystery.

“This is typical media spin. This is typical media spin. And I like how you guys don’t try to put any of the blame on Roman Reigns. What happened when Roman Reigns asked Buddy Murphy? What happened? What did he say he saw? He said he saw no one. And only when he had his head forced against the wall by Roman Reigns did he say anything about Rowan. What would you do if I pinned your head to the wall and I said you couldn’t leave until you gave me a name? I guarantee you, you would give me a name. I don’t know Buddy Murphy. I don’t care about Roman Reigns. All I know is that Rowan has nothing to do with this.”
