Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson at 36 boasts a career that most fighters would envy, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down. The former UFC flyweight champion and current #1 ranked flyweight with ONE FC has a 30-4-1 record, delivered eleven consecutive title defenses with the UFC, and the most finishes (7) in UFC flyweight history. Speaking with MMAJunkie, Demetrious Johnson stated that he still has a good few years left.
“I think three to four more years. I’ll probably keep on competing, depending on how my body feels. And after that, I want to spend as much time with my family and my kids. I love being a father. I love being a husband. I love being at home. That’s one of the things I truly cherish.

And I think as far as competition, I will focus on grappling just because you’re not taking brain trauma. So I think I’ll focus more on grappling and go from there.”
Johnson’s fighting style is built around a strong wrestling base, coupled with agile, elusive movement on the feet. With twelve submissions to his name over the course of his pro career, Johnson is clearly no slouch on the ground, either.
With Demetrious Johnson nearing the end of his contract with ONE FC, he believes that his MMA career will probably end with the promotion.
“Yeah, I think so. I’m 36 years old. I got a couple of fights left on my contract, and I’m happy over here, so I don’t see why not.
Obviously, when I come to that bridge, and I have to cross it, obviously my mindset is going to be different. When I was 31 years old, and I thought I was going to stop at 35 just because I don’t know how my body is going to be like. But now that I’m 36, I feel great, and here I am still competing. So we’ll see what happens.”
Demetrious Johnson’s latest fight was a second-round knockout loss to Adriano Moraes. “Mighty Mouse” will attempt to recover from the loss this weekend in a rematch against Moraes, which will see Johnson attempt to capture the ONE FC flyweight championship. The fight will take place in Singapore on August 27, at ONE 161, and will be broadcast on Amazon Prime.
Do you believe that we’ve got more Mighty Mouse to enjoy in the years to come, or will this title shot be Demetrious Johnson’s last? Let us know what you think in the comments.
