Khamzat Chimaev started making his name in the MMA world immediately after appearing on the scene. His looks, style, and fierceness are the reason for that. He has an undisputed fight record with zero losses and apparently, he will be fast to receive a title shot. Joe Rogan took notice of him as well and apparently took a liking to him. He says that he would very much like to see him fight Jorge Masvidal or Colby Covington.
Recently, Joe Rogan hosted the former UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, in an episode of his popular podcast. While there, the duo spoke about Kamaru’s shocking loss to Leon Edwards at the UFC 278 and chose their two favorite matchups for the welterweight division in the following period.
Joe Rogan Is A Fan Of ‘Crazy’ Khamzat Chimaev – Wants To See Him Fight Colby Covington Or Jorge Masvidal
It is no surprise that both of them chose Khamzat Chimaev in both of their potential matchup choices.
“Now that fight I can get behind, more than maybe even the Nate fight.” – Rogan concluded. “Masvidal versus Khamzat, I like that fight a lot. That’s interesting. Khamzat vs Covington is very interesting.” – he added. “Yeah, that’s the ultimate test, that’s your gatekeeper. Most people have said, before the Leon fight, that if it wasn’t for you, he would be the champion of the world. He’s that good. He’s got so much endurance man, it’s wild. He pushes a f**king crazy pace. The Woodley fight was one of the best examples. He could do it more.”
The UFC president, Dana White, shares the same excitement when speaking about Khamzat. However, at the moment he has Khamzat set to fight the veteran Nate Diaz at the UFC 279 on September 10th. The fight will be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Nevada and will be a pay-per-view event.
Before Kamaru Usman’s shocking loss, Dana White did plan on giving Chimaev a title shot. However, now, seems like plans have been altered a bit. Dana is determined to eventually give Chimaev a title shot. But now, he will first need to wait for the outcome of the re-match between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman before having this opportunity.
“I mean, obviously, if Nate beat Khamzat Chimaev, the No. 3 guy in the world, you’d have to look at Nate, too.” – White says for ‘The Underground’. “Everybody’s talking … like that it’s impossible for Nate Diaz to win this fight. Nothing is impossible in fighting. Everything is possible.”
Nate Diaz receives acknowledgment of his skills from many sounding names in the UFC business. Michael Bisping is one of them as well.
“You can’t count out Nate Diaz, let’s be honest.” – Bisping said for MMA Fighting. “More than likely, Chimaev is going to be a gigantic favorite in this fight and I understand that but Nate Diaz has been in there with some of the best. The reality is, that Nate lost a lot of fights. The 13 losses, it doesn’t sound good.
That is almost like kind of getting to journeyman status which sounds offensive but I’m not [trying to be], the man’s been in there with the best of the best. When you look at the people that he lost to, they’re all champions. They’re all top of the food chain. If you’re beating Nate Diaz, you have to be special. You can’t be some average guy, some average Joe, some guy that’s okay that’s had some success. You ain’t gonna beat Diaz like that.”
