With CM Punk’s rant at the AEW All Out Media Scrum dominating the wrestling news, fans and other wrestlers have been speaking out about their dislike for the former WWE and AEW champion.
In recent months, Punk has gone after a few of AEW’s wrestlers by name and others with obvious hints, whether it was in character or not is a fresh question after his shoot at the media scrum.
But we’re going to dig into some comments made by Eddie Kingston prior to AEW All Out on Busted Open Radio.
Great tension
Whether or not there were previous tensions between the two prior to Punk arriving in AEW is unknown except to them and maybe a select few,
Last month on Dynamite, CM Punk went off-script and took shots at multiple wrestlers, including Eddie Kingston.
A couple of months ago during a promo segment about Jon Moxley, Punk claimed Eddie was the third best Eddie he’s ever faced and the second best Kingston he’s shared a locker room with.
Kingston responded on Twitter with:
“Of course the c-nt says shit when I’m not there.”
Things got more interesting between the two of them prior to All Out on Busted Open Radio as we mentioned above.
Kingston, as usual, didn’t mince any words.
“That’s Phil’s MO, let’s just call it like it is. That’s Punk’s MO. My man has a Punk shirt there, God bless you, I’m happy you’re a fan of his. I’m not. He’s a b-tch, but God bless.
“You can like a b-tch, I don’t. I’m joking, it’s all good. I understand he’s a Chicago guy, I get it. Doesn’t mean I want to wrestle him. Punk’s not a good dude, I can’t care what he says.
“Of course, he’s going to talk trash when I’m not there. Of course, he’s going to talk trash when the boss is in the way. I just think he likes me and he can’t get over it. Maybe Phillip wants to be like me. Maybe Phillip wants to be loved like me, I don’t know.
“People think a lot of the stuff that I do is a work, or whatever they want to call it, because everybody likes using insider terms and be in the know.
“I’ll give it to you plain and simple. I don’t like (Chris) Jericho, I don’t like Bryan (Danielson), I don’t like Claudio (Castagnoli), I don’t like Punk.
“Those are the people I don’t like in this company. There is nothing you can say or do or tell me that makes them different to me. I know who they are.”
When Kingston was asked about why he doesn’t like them, he explained he wanted to keep that to himself as not everything needs to see the light of day.
“I’m gonna keep that to myself because people don’t need to know inside baseball. The curtain doesn’t have to be pushed back all the time.”
Kingston is one of the best on the mic, and while he’s a straight shooter, he’s also so good it’s next to impossible to tell if he’s being honest or playing a character at times, and he reminds me of Joe Pesci’s character Tommy in Goodfellas when it comes to reading him.
We’ll take him on his word on his feelings towards Punk and the others since there’s no reason to think otherwise, but we’re doing so with a grain of salt just in case.
