On this weeks edition of Monday Night RAW, Shayna Baszler made her presence known. She would attack RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch following another fantastic match with her rival Asuka. The two time NXT Women’s Champion would viciously attack Lynch, going as far to leave her in a bloody mess after biting her.
Fans of NXT know that Shayna is a vicious competitor, but she would normally rely on her submission prowess. This was a side of her we have never seen before, which is raising some questions with fans. Could WWE be turning Shayna Baszler into a vampire?
Could WWE Be Adding A Supernatural Edge To Shayna Baszler?
While NXT is a more grounded and wrestling based program, RAW & Smackdown are often home to more outlandish characters. The most notable one at the moment is current Universal Champion ‘The Fiend’, who is the demonic alter ego of Bray Wyatt.
During the attack, Jerry Lawler would yell out “Is she a vampire?!” after her bite drew blood. She would not be the first wrestling vampire in WWE, with the first being Gangrel & The Brood (Edge & Christian), and Kevin Thorn being another example from the ECW Revival.
While WWE has completely missed the fairly recent vampire revival period brought on by shows like True Blood and Vampire Diaries, they have always struggled to keep up with the times. It would be a questionable choice for Shayna, but one that could breed positive results.
Putting Some Mike Tyson Into Her Character
Another plausible angle they could be taking with Baszler here is emulating boxing legend (and DX member) Mike Tyson. In an infamous moment in sports history, he would bite the ear of Evander Holyfield during their second fight in the summer of 1997. This drew a ton of media backlash towards Tyson, and WWE could be trying to do this 23 years later with Shayna Baszler. It would be more in line with her established character from NXT, and could help her generate heat as she goes after the top babyface on Monday Night RAW. She could make Becky Lynch go from Becky Two Belts to Becky Ine Ear in one calendar year.
Do you think the bite of Shayna Baszler has deeper meaning, or was it just a way to establish her viciousness in her Monday Night RAW debut? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
