It’s hard to really put yourself in the shoes of a WCW fan during the rise of Goldberg in the late 90’s. His rise is infamous, and still looked back fondly on to this day. Despite not possessing the best in-ring skills, Goldberg was able to really capture the imaginations of fans as a larger than life hero – a man to take down the NWO.
However, there’s one match that stands out – the time when William Regal seemingly exposed the gaps in Goldberg’s skill set. Depending on who you believe, Regal either went against the script to show the rookie up, or was just following orders – but his exit from the company would soon follow. Now in 2022, Regal is more than happy to bury the hatchet if Goldberg wants.
William Regal Is Bothered By Having Issues With Goldberg
While speaking on his Gentleman Villain podcast, William Regal would speak about that infamous match with Golderbg. Regal would be quoted saying the following.
“It’s bothered me and it might not be Bill’s fault, but there’s this thing that needs putting to bed with me and Bill Goldberg,” Regal said. “I’ve told my same story whenever I’ve been asked, it never changes. I have sent messages through people that are close mutual friends of ours, here’s my number. I’m not going to assume that I can call him because that’s just rude, but here’s my number, let’s talk so we can put this to bed or not.
I’m not bothered one way or the other, but at least we can communicate, because whenever I’ve seen him after whatever he thinks has gone on, he’s never said a word to me. I haven’t seen him for many, many years, but I did see him in the 2000s and he never said a word to me. I didn’t know till after he left WWE that there was a problem with us; otherwise I would’ve confronted him about it.”
Right now, William Regal works for AEW as the manager of the Blackpool Combat Club – while Goldberg works on a legends contract for WWE. Will these two bury the hatchet? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
